Of course, it's politics, we are supposed to EXPECT the buggers to legislate in any possible means for them to sideskirt the issue & be exempt. Next thing they will be giving themselves pay rises, oh wait, they already do that!
*n.b.* for anyone interested in.au the two exemptions to the spam act 2003 seem to be not for profit organisations & politics. But the problem to me with these exemptions lies with emailing people that are only within Australia as to get those lists you would have to register with a "im stupid enough to want to get these do-gooder/political ramblings" emails in the first place.
Bah the world is a cynical place... or is it just me?
Here in Australia you can put whatever the hell you want in someones letterbox, as the other child poster said lots of companies get their junkmail delivered by kids on pushies for a token pay of sweet f/all.
It's a sweet way to corner the market however i must admit.
uhm, two words "vested interest". Surely you don't think that Arnie automagically stopped recieving money from the movies he made & the associated paraphanalia (sp=meh) that goes along with it the instant he became govenor?
Besides think of how many contacts he'd have built up over the eons.
Oh oh i KNOW, as a 'hypothetical', what about a script that starts a tcp/ip session then hangs it 1/2 way through the handshake, surely that will help test the durability of their servers.;-).
Oh and i hate spam, well the electronic stuff, the other stuff doesn't actually taste half bad, especially when camping!
read the Writ of summons. Basically the guy is being sued because he a) called the guy a criminal, b) called his company a gang of spamming criminals c) co-erced (sp?) the companies ISP to can his connection knowing full well that requiring an internet connection was vital to the companies existence.
Now i know he spoke to the ISP reporting the problem, he would probably be pissed about the spam and complained vigerously and the co-ercing the isp to terminate the account thing would possibly be dismissed, but theres a totally different kettle of fish being involved if the namecalling turns out to be true...
Good luck to the guy, i wish he had kept a lid on his temper more, it might have made this thing rollin his favour a little more.
given that a secureID license costs a pretty penny and the tokens cost a decent quantity of coin each, could you see a bank forking over the motza required to get their customers one of these? They wouldn't like paying for it? ok, what about their customers shelling out for that, i can't see them being too keen on it either.
Then again being a technologically unimpaired user i'd consider taking the option if it was available and would happily take the cost to get one.
It's the uneducated users that are the biggest problem in all respects.
ok, so its some form of freeware. to be honest i haven't got a bleeding clue exactly what it is licensed under. I use it, i appreciate the effort that's been put into its creation, i am happy:-)
Netscape = a company Mozilla = community project that had resources donated to it from Netscape.
netscape are just pulling code from GPL'd software and making their own branded product. The matter of Mozilla or Netscape making the better product is another topic altogether.;-)
UGH, that is crap!!! Lobbying taken to the extreme.
Here in Australia you can go to the tax office's online website and just download their program which can be used to calculate your tax, it's just like the dead tree edition except thats online, you can save notes, go back and revise as much as you like and then authenticate with the tax office and submit it for free!!
last year it took me just on a hour or so to do including downloading & installing as well as figuring out what i could pull off and what i couldn't deduction-wise.
I would imagine it's the wattage of the laser that counts. For the ditty little handhelds 3mW of power is still 3mW of power (yes i know this one is a bit more powerfull than that).
Regardless of the colour of the light the energy is still *there* but just in a slightly different wavelength.
Then again i know 3/5th's of fuck all about this optical stuff but figured i'd give my useless opinion like the rest of the mob.;-)
(1) True, but desperation to get past filters to the buying fools (who probably wouldn't know how to spell cialis or viagra if they had a blue fit).
(2) There are a lot of fools that get a cold, go to sites like www.wrongdiagnosis.com and assume they are about to keel over from collera or dhengi fever and then buy crap like this. Then there are the people that think they know better than a doctor, oh yeah, then there are the people that hate doctors, are ashamed of whatever it is they think they have and couldn't ever face a doctor. etc etc etc.
(3) Honestly i think the kind of people that buy this stuff haven't even thought about this kind of possibility.
(4) The world is full of idiots, see points 1 through 3 above.
Quit takin' the piss outta me!!!!!!
(yeah yeah i know its not me you are talking about, but it had to be said)
I see your point, but then again i'm not studying law so i'm not surprised that there are some gaping holes in my logic.
/. is a good one ;-).
Oh yes, also (slightly tounge in cheek) any excuse to have a ill thought out whinge about the government on

Think this way, if someone lies often enough, they start believing what they are saying.
wow really?

fill their mailbox with that spray-hardening packing foam? i think it's the kinda stuff they use in filling tyre punctures.

and yes i know i was generalising, but then again this is just "experience" talking here.

You're an idiot, you know that?
Evidently you've not been married or hung around people who have. ;-)
