i just read all of the fink vs. openosx debate, and the actual emails sent back and forth, and...i hate to say it, but...i have to agree with openOSX on this issue. please don't mod me down for that, it is my honest opinion. releasing libre software gives others the right to reuse it for their own projects. the fink guy claims they have 'covered their traces' by adding mention of fink...hello? isn't that what he was asking for? i wouldn't call that 'covering,' its more like 'complying.' anyway, it sounds to me like the openosx guy didnt realize that fink had patched the tools he was using--he seemed to have assumed it was just a download application. it seemed to me the fink guy was being kind of petty about the whole thing. anyway, i encourage everyone to go read this and form your own opinions on the issue.
disclaimer: i have never used openosx, i have used fink.

I, and many of those parents would never think to let the government have their or their child's DNA on file. could the government use this technique to start on their national DNA database? scary thought...

i am sooo dissatisfied with my powerbook. 13 months old, both of its hinges have cracked off, its paint has peeled off due to problems with the primer reacting with my skin, and i've gone through 2 power adapters (on my third now). the frame of the laptop picks up stray charges and shocks me frequently...not from static, either. the polycarbonate frame is cracked and wearing thin, and the titanium shell is really flimsy above my combo drive. apple's products are beautiful, and so is their software, but, in my experience, my 15" PB is a total piece of crap. the basis of the appeal of this deal to me is the cube...i don't think anyone would bat an eye at this if it were an old imac refurb, but apple somehow struck a nerve with the cube. i've never heard anyone describe the cube as anything but sexy. the question then becomes: what premium are you willing to pay for sexy? many people are willing to sacrafice speed for sexiness, many others will not. personally, as a poor college student, i couln't afford either, and thus am stuck with my dual-cracked hinge ti powerbook. (because of the hinges, i have to constantly prop the display up against something. right now, a pillow...sigh...)

one solution to the virus problem would be to have a button on the case, or the memory card itself, that emptys everything. almost all cheap electronic handhelds and pdas have memory clear buttons. mram would be nice because you wouldnt need a cmos battery any more. Ive had 3 computers go out on me with dead cmos batteries. (pre auto detect days) i had gotten these computers from my parent's office or my grandfather's garage, so i had no specs. i live in hawaii, and had no access to a suply of cmos batteries. i ended up manualy entering in data every time i rebooted. check out my new site...NIChacker its about "hacking" larry ellison's NIC. similar to the i-opener hacking stuff.
