Apple is just trying to ensure that their OS's reputation of being user-friendly isn't damaged by overzealous developers. New users don't know enough to distinguish between the OS and the applications that run on it, so an app that's hard to use reflects negatively on their OS.
Anyone else noticed a few bugs in Jaguar, notably it not coming out of sleep reliably, Finder not arranging icons properly and Finder copying folders instead of moving them?
Oh yes, God forbid any company ever try to make money. That's not what they're there for - they should be giving us high-quality software for free!
As far as I know, Apple bundles iDVD only with Macs that come with a Superdrive. Obviously, they developed that package to promote it as a benefit of ordering that $200 option. They release it for free because they know they will profit from the SuperDrive sales.
Allowing someone to use iDVD without a SuperDrive is taking advantage of Apple's generosity - they don't have to give iDVD away for free. This patch allows people to basically steal from Apple - why is it so terrible for them to do something about it?
I'm curious as to how one would go about designing a program to work with a specific Window Manager (or, for that matter, desktop environment). I can run KDE programs within Gnome, Afterstep, blackbox, and vice-versa.
Samba is not a version control system. Samba emulates Windows directory and printer shares off of a linux box. It can also perform several Windows-related network tasks, such as serve as a primary domain controller and provide authentication to clients on a company-wide network.
It doesn't need to work for Windows, because Windows has those capabilities built in.
Cool, quirky bookstore?

Sorry, but I don't want a "cool and quirky bookstore". The souless virtual megamall works just fine - if I want a book, it's there. I don't go to Amazon to have fun, I go there when I need something.

Are you kidding? He was 72 and had cancer! Conspiracy my ass!
Pardon my ignorance, but who are the other recently deceased people who 'had a role in developing modern day systems'?
Anyone else noticed a few bugs in Jaguar, notably it not coming out of sleep reliably, Finder not arranging icons properly and Finder copying folders instead of moving them?
Why? Because they actually want to profit from the time and effort that went into developing iDVD?

Right...and meanwhile, he was being polite and courteous.
Obviously, you have no idea what a Window Manager actually does.
Gnome and KDE are desktop environments, not Window Managers.
...until you revealed that you think programmers *pick* one Window Manager over another when designing applications.
Just because Slashdot happened to report the same story doesn't mean that it was 'shamelessly stolen'.
Link is bad.

If the editors keep neglecting to check these, someday we'll end up with one that points to goatse.cx
Oh, and how is that?
Why don't you go visit the store I went to, and then tell me my characterization wasn't accurate.
Well, that's it. I'm going to force those blithering idiots at CompUSA to take it back.
I'm assuming the dual 867 will give me better performance overall (using Photoshop, Office v.X, Illustrator, Quark) than the single 933, correct?
I just bought a new Power Mac G4 (933). Yesterday!!! 12 f*cking hours ago!!!
Noooooooooooo!!!!
How is this terribly different from a fingerprint?
static final String ANYTHING = "anything; /*...*/ /*...*/ }
String x = ANYTHING;
if (x == ANYGHING) {
Ahh, the irony.
Hate to burst your bubble, but .1 micron refers to the size of the components on the chip, not the chip itself.
Chips have been referred to in that manner for a while now.
The obligatory whiny, idiotic complaint about having to register for the New York Times.
Damn, beat me to it.
I think he'll be greated to a rising chorus of "Your Game SUCKS!" when he walks in on the first day.
Companies are out to make money!!
*Gasp*
The sky is falling!
Aren't most compilers polite enough to spit out a "Line xx:expected ';' " error in that case?
Zero is rounded down? I suppose that's true, in the same sense that ten is rounded up.
