  1. I just returned from living in China. on Taking My Freedom With Me to China? · · Score: 1

I was living in central China (Zhengzhou) for 10 months. Chinese people, and the Chinese government are actually really laid back, especially when it comes to foreigners. Unless you are actively trying to incite some kind of social unrest, they will treat you extremely well.

The only thing I ever had accessing on the net was Google's cache.

On the plus side, I paid $7 USD per month for a nearly 2Mbit dsl. Bittorrent all day long without fear of MPAA/RIAA. Maybe you could set up a supernova repacement while you're there? ;)

Although I think Greenpeace is more than a little kooky, I tend to agree with their view on monsanto.
They don't call them monsatan for nothing...

  3. Netlink Remote anyone? on Classic Mac FPS Marathon Turns 10 · · Score: 1

Did anyone else resort to that program (hack) to get their marathon fix? Holy crap, what a disaster...
For those unfamilier: Marathon and M:2 and M:i didn't have anyway to network over modems, or tcp/ip. NR was a semi-functional program that created an AppleTalk network over modem. Obviously, Marathon was not designed to run over a simulated AppleTalk network via a 21600 baud modem connection. But when my friends and I couldn't lug around our Power Mac 7100's, it was the only choice.

  4. Marathon TC for UT on Classic Mac FPS Marathon Turns 10 · · Score: 2, Interesting

There is a great Marathon total conversion for unreal tournament underway at http://resurrection.bungie.org/
It is an attempt to meticulously recreate the original Marathon in a modern engine. They have been working on it for a while, but still have a few maps to complete. Right now you can play through the original demo, plus it has a lot of net play maps, including many form M:2 and M:i. House of pain, anyone?

  5. i faced the same dilemma on What Do You Do When CS Isn't Fun Any More? · · Score: 1

except i had only done 2 years of generals. instead of going to school for cs, i decided ot get a job in the real word and see if i liked it. i loved my job, but decided i wouldn't want to do it for a career, or long enough to justify going to school for it for 3 more years or whatever. and now i'm working on my masters in acupuncture, which i love. i'm still a computer geek, and it's more fun now that it's my hobby, not my career. i still do consulting part time, and my computer skills come in handy all the time, as i'm sure they will in my practice.

but whatever you decide, definately finish your cs degree first.
