  1. wow, very cool.... on Red Brains vs. Blue Brains? · · Score: 1

I very much like your ideas. Personally I have become a bleeding heart liberal over the years, and your statement just confirms that =)

I think you really have something here. I do not believe there naturally evil people in the world. I think there are people who have been acting evil for so long they can't be helped. I think there are people who are so far gone they are hopeless. But I do believe that these are not "naturally" evil people. They are people with a tendency toward the dark (like Skywalker) who as a result of that tendency, make some bad choices and walked a dark path for a while. But even Vegeta (dragonballZ) was redeemed.

I think you are dead on with the "concervatives" view of right and wrong. That is Pres Bush all the way.

As a side note, I don't think the other guy that posted was trying to piss you off. He just seemed to be picking a point as to WHY liberals try to figure out the cause of people actions. I think this is a small diff with your theory. I think for the most part he was agreeing with you. He unfortunetely picked a rather touchy example to make his point, but I don't think the intent was to offend.

I have to say, I wish I had more conservative friends who really thought about all this, and could make a non emotional statement like you did.

One thing I would differ on is a change I think I'm seeing in the Rebublican Party. ( a "slightly" different group than the "conservatives").

While before in their effort to look for reasons, liberals tend to be labeled as more emotional. I think the Republicans saw value in this. So while they are the party of "right & wrong, black & white" they have a tendancy these days to then become very emotional about their choice. All the yelling and vocal outbursts you see on FOX and MSNBC.

I think this is very very smart on their part. They are holding true to the good vs evil movement, but are making emotional cases as well to bring over voters.

This is a change from before the Regan erra. The Republicans are playing much much tougher baseball now.

It's going to be an interesting year =)

All I can say is WOW. It was quite amazing. However, we are a long way off from seeing normal usage.

10Gbps is really only needed for areas where data merges. For example, would you rathat have 10 interfances bounded together? Or just have one? 10Gbps will take off from a ease of management and port desity.

So for the most part we are just talking about telcom, banks, government, and brocast groups.

It will be a long time before you will see/need this in your PC or laptop.

On the telcome side, I can tell you that I know of several companies working very hard to start shipping these products in volume due to pressure from the telcoms and their customers.

This is not easy, simple, or cheap for apple. The storage and bandwidth costs are HUGE. Then there are all the people involved. This is a huge operation, with many steps. Did you know apple supplies software to the record companies to create the AAP files? Did you know those songs when they come back go through 3 levels of QA before being released? (they have funny names too, "scrubbers" and "polishers" I think are two of them).

This is a huge cost to apple. $.10 cents per song barely covers it. This is why so many songs must be sold to make any real money.

Most of the money is made off of Ipods (3million sold) not the content.

Now I do agree that iTunes does't really help the artists a whole lot, as they still get bent over by the record companies. But hopefull more artists will start publishing straight to iTunes and can get a better deal? Well one can hope =)

I have a 8.8TB (raw) EMC Symm here, and another one in Austin TX. Then I have another 600GB or so in Sun jbod. Most hosts are connected to the EMC over a 2Gb SAN using brocades.

I just got this environment a couple weeks ago, and there was NO documentation. So figuring out disk usage over 15 systems has been a nightmare.

As much as I hate to admit it, EMC's ECC and Storage Scope have been a huge help. I could have done it using Veritas as well, but the EMC tools are nice.

And I'm soon going to add another 2TB SATA array over iSCSI so then we'll see if ECC can really manage "other peoples disk" :)

But welcome to the new exciting field of Storage/SAN architect/admin. With arrays from HDS and EMC coming in the 46TB flavor and more, resorce management is a big job.

For instance my counterpart (he handles windows, I handle *nix) found that we had 1.2TB of unused BCV's (it's a 3rd mirror, weird EMC'izm) that had never been used!

So it's all about documentation. And do yourself a huge favor, and come up with a clean scalable disk/lun/volume/mountpoint naming convention. This can be so critical. Not sure what other people do, but I'll have something like:

    host 1: dg001-dg005
    host 2: dg006-dg010
    host 3: dg011-dg015

    the disks are enclosure_name_id_lun#

volumes are v{dg}{v#} so first volume for disk group dg006 would be v1601.

Then mount points are based on either oracle{SID} or port, or app name or something logical.

Keep everything unique! So then you can move luns form host to host without having issues. This also allows you to generate usage reports and know that if v3206 is at 68% exactly what host, disk group, volume, and app are involved.

Ug, sorry, went off, but I'm in this mess right now myself and so I have some very strong feelings about it right now =)
