You can't have a computer book discusion without my old AP Comp Sci text book: C++ for You++. Despite the mind-numbingly ceesy title, it was actually a prettyy good reference.
Lets see. Broke US law, talked about it while in the US. Yup, thats a valid reason to arrest him. So we protest to get them to drop the charges (and by we, I don't actually include myself, or most of the people reading this, because we all know you didn't actually make a phone call to adobe). So they agree to meat with representatives of people representing Dimitry to get them to drop charges, and this till isn't enough for you? I wouldn't expect the CEO of Adobe to come out over the weekend for something like this. Its not a big enough deal to them. Somebody broke the encryption on one other products. Big deal. I'd still be out fishing, if I were Bruce Chizen (Adobe CEO, fyi).
You're missing something though. My rights a consumer and a citizen trup the rights of a corporation (in theory). There is no "right" to make a profit. The Fox-Panasonic example above would simplpy mean that they signed a really bad contract. Just because the signed a contract doesn't mean they are legal able to do what they agreed to.
Um, actually, that's by definition part of what a government does. Thats like saying "Oh, now the governments building roads , and a military! Where will it ever stop?" Luckily, its a government which you're represented in. Don't like the choices? Write to your representitives. Vote. Run for office. Don't just complaint that the government's actually doing its job.
Not Exactally. Most monkey show various froms of homosexuality to augment their heterosexuality. The Bonobo monkeys are notable not because of thier sexuality, but because of their social structure. Unlike about every other primate, the Bonobo's are naturally female dominant.
Their district's elementry science fair guidelines are here. Says specifically they could watch and observe people. I remember specifically that my science fair projects were alowd to deal with people at upper grade levels, but elemntry level was totally fine; my brother's fifth grade project was comparing you tasting abilities normally vs with your nose pinched, since taste and smell are interlinked.
I bet I'll be reading here in 20 years about how to hack one of these to use 8192 bit encryption on one with SSv9, or how somebody got the Linux to work on it.
Well, some argument could be made about the way the moeny flows. At school, I'm paying to be there, And my money suports thier actions. At work, They pay me to be there, and their moeny supports my (in)action.
At UMCP, we've got a fairly reasonable AUP, as far as most college's go (http://www.inform.umd.edu/CompRes/NEThics/aug/) if you care to read it. However, the parts of are issue, mostly:
Computing resources are provided to support the academic research, instructional, and administrative objectives of the University. These resources are extended for the sole use of University faculty, staff, students, and other authorized users ("users") to accomplish tasks related to the user's status at the University, and consistent with University's mission.
My issue is that anyone living int he dorms here spend close to 24/7 on campus (exculding jobs and such), and of course nobody spends all thier waking hours doing work. Should the AUP's of colleges simply be written this way to CYA, or should they be appropriate to actual usage and policing?
Exactally! What do you think Man pages are? OR online encycolpedias. They're great for reference, just maybe not for novels. Yet.
And if you think about it, books didn't come into being because soembody wanted to have a story to read late night by the fire on thier fur blankets, they come for shareing of actual information
Actually, there already is. Quite a few of the Hotline servers already have some. O'Reilly published soem vf there boosk on cd, an2d thier there, as well as all sorts of manuals and "Coding for Stupid People" type books. Standard comments about not wanting to read a 500 page books on my screen apply, but these are searchable.

Its not just the hardware, and its not just the OS when it comes to macs, its the way both function together. Almost everything on mac is plug and play, or at least very very close to it, and it actually works (as opposed to Win's lovely version of it). When you work with apple products, you know every copmponent is quality, and youwon't have to go replacing your network card in 3 months because it was made from some no name vendor in the middle of tibet. All your apps work straigt throught withe the same interface, as according to Apple's strict human interface guidelines, which have been used for the past 10 years or so. There actually are beinifits for a closed system, where one place is in charge of all major changes.
You have every right to see the government's logs for most public institution. Assuming its not dealing with sensative data, thats exactally what the FOI act means. We get requests from the Church of Scinetology something like once a month for our log on anything regarding L. Ron Hubbard, their founder, and we have to bend over backwards to provide this information to them. Addmittedly, its a nusance, but I want the same privlidge if I ever need to find out something from the smisonian, or the ATF. Besides, it help keep the conspiricy cooks down.
According to somewhere in the apple archives, its "OS 10," but OSX has such a better ring to it. Reminicent of a marvel comic, just can't remeber which one.
Why does it just seem like hooking one of these up to the internet at all is a Bad idea? If I had soething I wanted (read: needed) to keep this secure, having it conect to any sort of server wouldn't be the way to go.

An innocent person who's using your email account? Not too likely.

That realy ought to be "I don't think they should milk it any longer"
