I'd be more interested in the RAID capabilities of the motherboard than the upgrade from ATA100 to ATA133. Besides, hard drives are so much faster than CD-ROM drives that they are all pretty much the same. I actually got a "faster" ATA100 hard drive (60 GB) that goes slower in real life than my old ATA66 20 GB hard drive. 1) benchmarks don't always reflect real life 2) speed doesn't really matter with hard drives since they're so fast anyway.
If you read the constitution, there is nothing in there about the federal government having the right to govern communication in any way (the entire point of the FCC). However, there *is* a statement that any function not delineated as an area of federal authority will be the in the jurisdiction of the states. It is unconstitutional for the federal government to mandate such charges.
Now is the time to learn about our universe so that we will be prepared when the time comes to prevent the extinction of our species.

No matter what they do, it will be cracked -- therefore copy protection does not hurt software and music pirates. They will figure out a way to do it. No, the people it hurts is the legitimate users that just want a backup copy in case the cd gets broken, which is their legal right. The people who want to put the songs on their MP3 player so they can listen to it while jogging without experiencing CD skipping. Thats who is hurt by the copy protection. Honest people who have paid for the product are being robbed by the publishing companies. This is true for both software and music. It *will* be pirated. That cannot be stopped. Only law abiding citizens follow the law.
Heh. Really. So you believe that simply because a corporation bullys you you should believe everything they say? There *is* a legitimate question here as to whether they have the legal right to control in any way the actions non-profit, free mod of an existing computer game. Saying that they have a legitimate claim is like saying that someone who wrote a school essay on Microsoft Windows deserves to be sued by Microsoft for using their "copyrighted" material in the essay. It falls under fair use. They are not profiting from it. They are not "photocopying" original material. They are simply designing a free mod using ideas that have been aired on television. I believe there are also laws that anything aired over public airwaves becomes fair game. So just because Funimation claims they have the right to stop these people doesnt mean that in fact they do.
PS2 IS crap. X-box is much better, and supports DVD. In addition, X-box is American so we'll get games like Neverwinter Nights and Fallout 3 on it instead of crappy games like Final Fantasy 7 with bad plots and no strategy. (just waiting for the next bar to fill so I can tell him to attack is *NOT* strategy) Also our money will be going to America's economy and not Japan's. Also just look at the sheer numbers in the hardware specs. X-box is going to blow away the Playstation 2. And for those of you that hate M$ it is true, they are an evil monopoly corporation etc, right out of Shadowrun, blah blah. But you HAVE to admit, they are good at what they do, and just about everything they do is successful. The Indrema isn't going anywhere because they just can't compete with M$ with advertisement and cooperation with game developers. Nobody's going to bend over backwards to develop for a noname Linux console that will only really appeal to Microsoft haters. X-Box is the way to go, at least for this generation of console systems.
If we avoided subjects that have been previously discussed, we wouldn't have much to say, would we? I mean just because we've discussed Linux before doesn't mean we should no longer mention the word. This is a different topic because it's a different group of people. The only true repeated discussion would be one that is word for word the same, because every statement has a slant that makes it different. Some of us are interested in hearing news from all different perspectives.
The only people who will work to reduce government control in any area is the Libertarian party. If it's open source you want, if it's freedom from taxes, freedom from ridiculous patent laws, if it's freedom from the Corporate rule, (eg napster and decss trials) your only hope is to vote Libertarian. Nobody else is going to do anything about it -- they're too busy trying to keep the lobbyists and the press happy. Make your vote count. Nothing will change until you do.
Boot disks are not used to play pirated games. They are used to play backup games. The people that play pirated games with them are abusers. We should not lose our rights because others abuse them. I'm certain that Linux, which is a tool that is being given out, is hurting Microsoft financially. However, that doesn't mean that we don't have a right to distribute it. We are free to do whatever is within our rights and if it hurts someone (or some corporation) financially, screw them. That's what capitalism is about. They have lots of ways to make the money back. If you can't live with capitalism move to China.
Regardless of whether you think people exercise their right to make legal backups, there are many who do and I am one of them. If they are permitted to take away our right to backup our games just because some people abuse that right, that would be the same as taking away our right to drive a car because some people drive drunk. So think about what the universe is like outside your little world and realize there are people who are different from you. Just because you wouldn't see the value in making a backup copy of a game doesn't mean nobody else does.

Dear Mr. Harris,
I have a right to make legal backup copies of games I purchase. However, corporations like Sega like to prevent me from taking advantage of my right by implementing technology that makes it more difficult to make backup copies. Regardless of their actions, I STILL have a right to back it up. Now in order to do that I have to CIRCUMVENT their technology which is designed to prevent me from doing something I have a RIGHT to do. Therefore I have a right to circumvent their technology. I also have a right to share my knowledge with other people in order to help them to make legal backup copies of their own software. Your work is destroying the means by which our knowledge is shared, so that we all may exercise our right to back up our software. Sega is using its MONEY and ability to hire you to make legal threats to TAKE AWAY EVERYBODY's rights. THEREFORE, you are profiting from the prevention of my rights and every other person's rights. You are stealing our rights. You are pocketing the profit.
Are you proud of that?
Tell me. What would you do if you bought a game and you dropped the CD. You have a CD-copier and could have made a backup copy, but the company that made the game put copy protection on it, so you couldn't copy it. There are no web sites out there that can help you figure out how to circumvent it, because they've all been shut down by lawyers.
This happened to me. I had to pay the company $18 to send me a replacement CD. Something which would have costed me $.50 to do, if it hadn't been for the copy protection and the lack of circumvention. The game was Ultima 9. I paid $50 for it. I BOUGHT THIS GAME. I HAD A RIGHT TO MAKE A BACKUP COPY OF IT. But because of YOU, I was unable to copy it, and was forced to pay $18 for something that should have cost $.50. How would you feel in this situation? Frustrated? Well you made it happen. You do every day you send those letters.
Are you proud of that?
This is a small example of how you get your money. Multiply it by thousands. That's how you and your kind are fed in this society. You eat rights. You eat everybody's rights, including your own. Slowly we lose more and more rights to you. Soon we will be just like the USSR. Thanks to you. Thanks to you.
I hope you enjoy your money. I hope you can find a way to sleep at night.
And I hope that Sega goes bankrupt. I most certainly will never purchase anything from them again.
I have an inalienable right to back up my own software. I have a right to use software I purchase whether I drop the CD and break it or my Dreamcast/CDROM/PS/whatever fries and takes the disk with it. I have a right to do this AND I have a right to circumvent the security measures on the device in order to do so. AND I have a right to have sources for information on how to LEGALLY back up my software. It's people like you that allow our rights to be denied and allow us to be exploited. It's people like you that allow EULA's to be twenty pages long and require signing your firstborn son into slavery for five years. If you don't believe in freedom, move to China, because you don't belong here.
We are stuck on this planet that's gonna be consumed by the sun someday, the only way to explore the universe (right now at least) is by detecting radio, light, radiation, whatever we can collect. If we don't, we die. Besides, all you ever do is whine about how you wish the world was one big happy communistic liberal-land. Nothing you say holds an ounce of common sense. Yeah sure, if all the rich people gave away all their money the world would be happy... NOT! Guess what would happen? Another great depression, the rich people wouldn't invest because they'd be too poor. Businesses would go out of business. People would lose jobs. The poor people would spend all their money, because everything would be expensive. Money would become worthless, and those who work it right will get rich, and those who don't will end up just as poor as they were before. In any case, everyone loses. If you don't think so, try taking a few economics courses. Stop thinking with your emotions and reason things out before spouting infeasible solutions to life's woes. All you do is piss people off.
hm, already been invented. Have you ever watched star trek? Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have a flying car instead of creeping about on our planet's surface like ants? Have you ever wondered about the future of humanity with the certain, though distant, decay of our sun? The fact is, we have to find our way to another planet or we will die here. Do we have the resources to solve these problems? Not yet, and that's why scientific research is important. Antigravity would be a great achievement, and this is a big step in understanding gravity so that it can be circumvented. It all depends on our ability to understand energy, gravity, and the universe. We should be applauding these people not criticizing them.
OK so the particle accellerator's about to shut down, a bunch of scientists frantically searching for another grant, and they come up with some "abnormal" readings in their latest particle smashing party. Something about this reeks of observer bias. I think the results of the experiment are a little too close to the personal lives of these people to be believable. I would hope that any people reviewing this would take this into consideration before believing any claims made. In my experience data can be interpreted in many ways, and the belief we choose is often that result which would profit us the most.
Shadowrun would have been a much better rpg to pick for this article. It has megacorporations. It has the Matrix. It has magic and crime and big guns. It's also got a real easy system compared to AD&D. All based on D6. And they just came out with 3rd edition too. Play the game on Sega Genesis (or download the ROM) to get a taste of the Shadowrun universe.
Just hold out for six months or so. DVD burners will get cheap enough to be affordable, and there will be PS2 emulators. Don't let Sony get away with this statement. Giving them one penny of your money is a statement that you support their actions. If all else fails go with X-box. Even Microsoft is better than Sony.
They have had them for years on navy ships. Automatically locks on using visual sensors, able to lock onto any visible target, computer makes calculations based on range, velocity and it hits with nearly 100% accuracy. Very deadly. Caused a few mishaps if I remember correctly. It got out of control and they had to wait for it to run out of ammo to manually disable it. But that's just off the top of my head, no sources to quote.
I'd be more interested in the RAID capabilities of the motherboard than the upgrade from ATA100 to ATA133. Besides, hard drives are so much faster than CD-ROM drives that they are all pretty much the same. I think it would be easier to go out there and see for ourselves. Somebody invent warp drive!!!
