    A software bug caused the first Ariane 5 to crash. Basically it boiled down to lazy coding ignoring a background thread from the previous version of the software that was no longer needed.

    Working as a developer at a tiny shop just out of college. Any time the CEO had troubles figuring out how to access a website I would be summoned to "just fix it" for him.

    He taught me never to point a gun at something unless I planned on killing it (It's so ingrained in me, I refuse to play paintball because of it).

    You know, I wonder if this is why I suck so much at paintball. My eyesight isn't so great, and I don't pull the trigger unless I am absolutely damn sure the person I am aiming at is on the other team. Thus I tend to get hit before I even shoot.

    I also go through way less paintballs then anyone else on the teams I have played on as I don't believe in spray and pray.

    And what if the guy is lying about it? What if he wanted his stepson to shoot himself to get rid of the kid? If we don't punish people who commit the very definition of "reckless endangerment", how will it act as a deterrent to anyone else who might do the same thing?

    The problem is, your life is worth a lot less to me then it is to you. (Sorry, not trying to be an ass, but I don't even know you.) I can probably guess our lives are worth whatever we pay in taxes to a bureaucrat (if that).

    I think this is more of a cultural problem. After taking care of a parent with a terminal disease, I can sympathies with anyone in that situation. Furthermore, in many cases the patient's life is worth less to them, then it is to their family.

    As long as they use this adblock hide article technique to hide articles that are simply vague advertisements anyhow. I don't see a problem here!

    Actually I haven't read Ars in years; so I cannot say if they bow to the pressure most hardware sites do to become advertising parrots. If I remember correctly, their focus is on geek culture rather then hardware now. (Note, my memory sucks.)

    At any rate, flash or full page ads = adblock on the entire site. even if they also have less annoying text ads.

    Actually you on to something here. I read a report a while back that January is the highest month for elderly to pass away. Originally this was thought as a consequence of the weather however this holds up in warmer climates too. New thinking is that people hold on to survive through the holiday season to see family, and finally cant hold on any more once the holidays are over. I was not able to find the report I read about this, but my own anecdotal evidence supports what you found.
