This is exactly what Copyright is all about. It is pointing out that the value of some [digital] data is more than the value of the media it's printed on.

Your point is utterly anti-copyright, if you really think a piece of music is worth only the CD it's burned on. Because this is only true for pirates.

Also, I tend to favor the aesthetic part of things when I am at home, and the productivity when I am at work.

aesthetic is good, but it has to leave room to some productivity as well. I wouldn't live in an extremely beautiful and pleasant home if it didn't have any shelf to store my books for example.

Extremes are bad. It's all about balance. And the point of balance is different for everyone of us.

XYZ may be some infos that are already public, but encouraging spam and DoS by such a statement is basically making justice yourself. Of course, internet legislations aren't cathing up quite as fast as this kind of stupidity, so I guess it is not illegal. But it should be punished.

I guess that since no big corp is backing that up, it'll get turned into a law in a while, as opposed to all the MPAA/RIAA crap. Even though pirating a couple of CDs might do less harm to the economy than encouraging to spam random people.

Actually SPAM is illegal now, right? So encouraging spam should be illegal too, no?

There are very few countries (if any) where people die of hunger for a lack of money. In my own experience, if you give blindly to the first charity that supposedly will feed small africans, your money could very well end up in the deep pocket of some president of some sort.

On the other hand, even if your $20 are wisely used, they will probably not save people from dying of hunger. It maybe will add some butter on some child's bread (which is a noble cause, don't get me wrong), but in the neighbor country people will continue to die for stupid political reasons.

Not to say charities are worthless, but you have very few chances of saving a life by donating $20. Although you will most likely make some poor kid a little happier.

    2. I also would not call that "choking" I do. The main page is unreadable. Granted there are plenty of workaround (such as increase the font size and decrease it), but it is still very annoying.
    3. is mostly due to bad HTML from /. If all the websites out there were written in perfect HTML, we wouldn't have browser problems today.

In your original post, you say:
Opera is not even close to being as standards compliant as Moz/Firefox (or even IE for that matter). I have used both extensively and Opera just chokes on too many sites

And you just overlook the fact that choking on many websites doesn't have anything to do with being "standard compliant". It is actually the opposite: To not choke on these websites, your browser needs to be able to render correctly incorrect HTML.

That is the entire issue here. So while the slashcode might have some responsibility over there (Although I doubt it, as this bug is not specific to slashdot), the real problem is that the browser war force them to render correctly incorrect HTML, hence encouraging html writers to write non-compliant stuff.

The point remains: The slashdot main pages renders correctly in all browsers except the Mozilla family.
