Ok, how about this... Not all of us want 3-D games.
(Ok... Except for Team Fortress. Yeah, I know I stink at it, but that doesn't mean I don't have fun.)
Personally, I'd be happy with this box if there were a decent Raiden-2 style game.
Even if they do manage to produce the hardware, the mass-market won't give a damn about this. Basically the major VG software manufacturers are circling their wagons around one of the big 4 (Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, and maybe Sega) and are going to get locked down under non-comp deals, if they aren't already.
But what if they aren't targetting the major game makers? There are plenty of small shops that have wanted to produce games for the abovementioned systems, but can't, because they can't afford the fees.
Whereas with Indrema, the developer's kit is free. When you release a game, Indrema gets a cut of whatever you sell it for, so if you freeware your game (usually for publicity) they don't even get a cut then.
I'd call it a TurboGrafx 16, if I couldn't think of a shorter lived and more ill-conceived console.
When is the Indrema gonna ship? By Thanksgiving? HA!
By Christmas?
I doubt it.
Show me the goods. Until then? The tease is pretty damn irksome.
If you had bothered to read their website, you would have seen that the target date for the system is 2001. They aren't trying to force the box out for the Christmas season this year.
Probably because the technical people are telling the marketing wankers what to print, rather than marketing setting the deadlines.
We need to do EVERYTHING in our power to slow the inevitable depletion of our fossil fuels.
Everytime they (scientist types who count these things) re-estimate how many years worth of fossil fuels we have left, they get a bigger number than they had from the previous estimate.
This isn't, however, to say that cleaner, more fuel efficient vehicles shouldn't be produced... They should.
Is there documentation for Linux? You know the answer as well as I do. Often I have found that doing something in Linux turns out to be extremely easy but arriving at the point where I knew what to do was difficult due to lack of documentation. Case in point: how do you add dial-on-demand to pppd? Answer: add the word demand to the pppd options file. What could be easier? But how long did I have to dig around in man pages, how-tos and comp.os.linux.help to find that out? Perhaps an hour.
So why doesn't someone host a "how-to" for commonly asked Linux questions? I'd even be willing to host it on one of my web accounts, if someone else would provide the information, as IANALG (I am not a Linux Geek).
Tho, for all I know, there is such a site, I just don't know about it.
I'll take this one part at a time.
you have to give more money than poor people do to the big bad federal government that builds and maintains the roads,
Actually, the Federal Government provides the money to the states to repair interstates. And any state that doesn't change the legal limit of intoxication to.008 will lose some of that money.
provides your safety net once you get old
Actually, if you are fairly well off, the government isn't providing much of anything. I do think that the 'means test' for Social Security should be higher, but I'm not going to let my grandmother hear that...:)
educates you and your children,
See above. The rich are much more likely to provide private schooling to their children.
protects your oh-so-important monetary interests here and abroad
Actually, private run interests have always outperformed government run funds. Did you have a specific example you wished to use?
2 years later, after working with each person in the department and showing them I knew what I was doing and was trustworthy (or so I thought), I was turned down a technical job for the reason that I was a "security risk." Or too dangerous or something.. Umm.. Right.
It might not have been anything you did, it could have been a relative.
I know that I 'negativly impacted' my dad's security review at his job after my "run-in" with the Secret Service...
I wonder if it's time to find/found a group/party with the sole intention of "fixing" the system, to return more power to the people, and try and reduce the corporate and republocrat hold on the government. Not one that gets involved in all the other issues, because that just becomes divisive, but solely with improving things.
If there's one out there, please someone, let us know. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would want to get involved. And if there isn't, anyone up for trying to create one?
Announcing the formation of the Techno-Rationalist Party.

You may now remove your tongue from your cheek. (What, you don't think I was going to give my _real_ e-mail address, did you? That one does work, tho...)
No Waterstones carry that racist anymore. After receiving many complaints they finally saw the light. And if you aren't aware of what trash the man was capable of, try reading "Sixth Column" or especially "Farnham's Freehold"
Heinlein was not racist. He was not sexist. He may have been elitist, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
Sixth Column was set in an America conquered by the "Pan-Asian Empire". It is, therefor, possible that the characters may have had racist feelings towards their oppressors without attributing the same feelings towards the author. In fact, the characters showing such biases makes them far more believable than they would be without showing those biases.
Farnham's Freehold is set, for the most part, in an future in which the 'minorities' of the 60's (I believe the first part of the book is set in the 1960s, but I may be wrong) are now the rulers of the planet, and the 'majority' races (whites, Japanese) are slaves, and even food sources for the leaders.
The main characters of that book are thrust from their relatively comfortable time period into this future via nuclear blast. One of the characters has no problem with the new situation (he's now one of the leaders, instead of a houseboy), two of the characters 'accept' their 'slave' status, whereas the other two attempt to escape and are eventually sent back in time to the past they came from (almost).
The point Heinlein was trying to make was that slavery or oppression of any kind, even in an attempt to redress past wrongs, is morally and ethically repugnant.
Try reading "Time Enough for Love", "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress", or "Stranger in a Strange Land". Heinlein was as much a social commentator as he was one of the most profound and insightful science fiction authors.
Humor aside, I am looking forward to getting one of these... (The PS/1 died last month.) A lot, check that, everything will depend on the games they get.
Personally, I'm looking for a Raiden 2 style game...:)
Even though the Halloween documents went public, Microsoft is doing EXACTLY what they set out to do.
I know this will make me sound rather clueless, but chalk it up to nine months of unemployment and a general feeling of not caring about the world, but I have to ask...
this is for real? ms has been known to bullshit a lot. with things looking so bad for them with the trial, maybe they're trying to get a bit of public sympathy?
Well, federal law enforcement agencies are well known for lacking a sense of humor. If they found out that MS was BS'ing them, heads would roll.
The FBI doesn't have much of a sense of humor; maybe more for this than, say, a kidnapping, but it still isn't worth the risk. (The Secret Service has no sense of humor.)
The "fringe" candidates will use just about any media outlet that will listen to them. They can't afford not to; not if they want to get their message out.
Really? What are they doing in Yeamen then? Shopping trip?
The FBI has the lead in such cases because of international treaties that recognize embassies, and military bases as American 'soil'. As such, they are within the FBI's jurisdiction and charter.
not all games are 3D :)
Oh really? Where have you been the last 5 years?

Think about it.
Programmers want to do their own thing, even though they are being paid to do what the company wants.
To get them to do what you want, occasionally, the cat toys have to be broken out, in an attempt to get them all working on the same thing.
And, like cats, if you mistreat them, they will sulk, ignore you, and actively plot your destruction.

Cthulhu loathes me, this I know,

Piss him off, you won't last long.

Yeah, but being from Michigan is punishment enough.
Good to see that they followed up on their promise.

Indrema should be rather nifty.

Agreed. Torg and Riff should have one shortly.

Well.. not to Americans at least.
No, that's the CIA. The FBI is chartered only for domestic operations. Not that this prevents them from running stuff in other countries...
Locks won't stop too many thieves usually. All you have to do is to get a blow torch or acid or explosives and you have access to the whole cache.
A friend of mine, who repos cars for a living, has this to say about locks:
"They only keep the honest people out."
Yep... I noticed that after I posted. Some days I just can't win.
