    Macs haven't had floppy drives for several years. So, I'm pretty sure you're safe.

    Less flippantly, I've been using Macs for all of those ten years, and I've never seen one of your "viruses". I remember an AutoStart worm (autostart was always and ever will be a lousy idea), but that wasn't a huge deal.

    So, there you go. Proof by anecdote. : )

    As long as they don't all get tiny screens, and I don't ever, ever have to deal with T9, that will be great.

    I thought I'd hate the keyboard on the Treo, but it's almost completely without suck.

    Almost.

    Having said that, for me the killer feature is compatibility with the raft of third-party Palm apps I use on a daily basis. I don't care whose name is on the device as long as that stuff all works.

    Missing Sync is easily the worst application on my Powerbook.

    I use a Treo 650, and Missing Sync provides daily excitement and drama. I don't want excitement and drama, ever.

    What the hell is an error 16394? Their support folks sure don't know...

    OK, you might not have any virus problems with Notes. I think it's also worth observing that you don't have computer virus programs by using trained sled dogs to drag around clay tablets that have been carefully scribed with pointy sticks.

    I'll take the pointy sticks over Notes.

    What constitutes an "everyday user"? Hitachi obviously thinks there's a market for this drive. I'm inclined to think they're right.

    I like that idea, too. But, once your music collection exceeds the size of the largest available iPod, other criteria become important.

    It's not hard to design smart playlists that keep all my favorites on an iPod, and then a good healthy leavening of stuff I haven't listened to in a while. I probably won't buy a 4gb nano, but as they increase in capacity and my 4g 40GB gets long in the tooth and short in the battery, it's going to be a mighty attractive option.

    You have me confused with an anarchist. I simply want the police to be required to not do things that are unconstitutional. I also want the courts to stop allowing police to get away with doing unconstitutional things.

    If by "vigilantism", you mean taking responsibility for my own personal safety, I am fully in favor. I don't think that's what you mean, though, so I'm not sure what you're talking about.

    I don't want "nothing", but I certainly want far less law enforcement than we currently have. I don't care about what drugs people like to take, and I don't think law enforcement should either. I fail to see what that has to do with overthrowing governments...

    So your stop-gap solution is to relocate millions of people until we figure out how to make decent batteries? That's pretty absurd.

    IC engines work fine. They can be made arbitrarily clean and efficient. You STILL don't get to tell people what to do.

    I'm still trying to figure out the "depleted natural resources" part, so, no, I can't.

    The sky is not falling. Dependence on oil is indeed a sub-optimal long term solution, so other solutions are being developed.

    Take a deep breath. Or, alternatively, commit suicide and help Mother Earth.
