    Yeah, iTunes does like to re-organize the files. Thing is, I don't care. I haven't given a lick of thought to the file hierarchy since I figured out what was up with the database.

    At first, I was seriously annoyed that it whacked my file structure. Then, I understood what it was doing, and the file structure was irrelevant.

    Right. Like Tiger does it. We'll see the state of the art next Friday. Too bad Microsoft only has a year to try and hack together something that's buzzword-compliant.

    But when you have a data structure that's not very hierarchial, binding to a hierarchy doesn't make sense.

    With iTunes, I can browse by album, OR by artist, OR by genre, OR by keyword. Not possible with a hierarchial structure.

    The much better solution would be to tag the MP3's with metadata that gets cached into a searchable database, and then completely ignore the folder hierarchy.

    You know, kinda like iTunes does.

    Samba is useful without proprietary products, but it's also redundant. There are a number of other ways to scratch the same itch that Samba scratches. The reason to use Samba is to interoperate with Windows.

    Uh, yeah. People with principles don't discard them when they're inconvenient.

    I happen to think it would be unprincipled to discriminate in my hiring practices. I believe that would be a) silly and b) immoral. However, I think quotas/affirmative action/the politically correct flavor of the week is MORE unprincipled.

    I want a color blind society. You can't get one of those by making distinctions based on color.

    You've got it backwards. This is a public service that the citizens pay the government to provide, that private interests are attempting to take away from us.

    The bill could be passed because I can't afford my own senator to shoot it down. Neither can you, probably. The weather networks sure can, though.

    I don't like the programming on HBO and Showtime. I like the programming on BBC. The market serves you, and probably the majority of the American audience. I think that's great! More power to them. However, the market does not serve me. I don't have a "choice", as you say. I wish to choose "Not HBO, not Showtime, BBC!" but I can't.

    Just because you don't like it doesn't mean I shouldn't. See?

    In principle, you're right. In practice, you get Desperate Housewives.

    I'd rather have BBC. I'd be DELIGHTED to pay the license fee and get that, instead of the crapfest that is American cable TV.

    I get you on the flip covers. I loved my Visor Edge with the aluminum shell. Wish I could find it. I'm still looking for the Right Solution for my Treo. That's all that separates it from nirvana. The one handed operation is very nice, it's compact, and the screen is totally awesome.

    And the keyboard, while I was ready to hate it, is actually pretty darn good.

    Just out of curiosity, what makes that better than the Tungsten E2 or the Zire?

    I'm not trying to be argumentative, just curious. And I love my Treo 650. Had to say it.

    Treo 650==super awesome. The keyboard doesn't piss me off nearly as much as I thought it would, and everything else is bulletproof.
