However your comment was that it's "horribly overpriced". Since it's been selling in droves, I don't think your statement has a lot of validity. You also implied that only your parent poster thinks it's a good deal. I think it would be much closer to the truth to say that only you think it's a bad deal.

Feel free to not buy one. You just sound pretty silly when you cry about the pricing, when these things have been flying off shelves around the planet. It might not be cheap enough for YOU, but why on earth would Apple lower the price if they can sell all they can make at the price they're asking?

Well, the Bush administration agrees with you. I do not. Microsoft is using their monopoly on desktop operating systems to quash emerging technologies and stagnate the state of the art. The market is not free to evolve, because it's not in Microsoft's market to allow the market to be free.

Microsoft controls the market. That is worse than the government restricting Microsoft.

Nonsense. I simply think that on our political landscape, there are much bigger problems.

Like suspension of the writ of habeas corpus. THAT is what we should be spending our political energy fighting.

This debate is a distraction: It's a red herring to keep us from addressing the serious problems. Setting up such red herrings is the neo-conservative movement's true genius. They're really, really effective at distracting public opinion from big issues and getting them stuck talking around the water cooler about school prayer and gay marriage.

I think both of those topics are important, and need to be discussed and addressed. However, I'd like to get the right to a trial by jury back first.

You don't think being a Christian is stigmatized? I think you live in a fantasy world.

High school is a staggeringly intolerant, cliquish, exclusive place. I think that socializing in that environment is the direct cause of a lot of problems we see in modern society. I don't think that including (or excluding) talking about God is going to make a meaningful dent in that overwhelming problem.

That doesn't mean that social stigma has the force of law, it means that people were addressing the wrong problem.

If I thought that removing "under God" from the pledge, or removing prayer at football games, would stop (or even meaningfully reduce) students from being horrifyingly cruel to one another, I'd be on board in a second.

I don't think talking about God at school. I think the bad feelings about talking about God are a symptom of a much larger problem.

I'm not sure it's contradictory to the law of the land. No religion is being established by the government. It could be argued that reverence for a higher power (generically named "God") is part of American civics.

Now, the moment some ignant Bible thumper wants to try to teach Intelligent Design on the same rhetorical footing as the well-established theory of evolution, I will disagree with said Bible thumper most enthusiastically, as I did when I was eight years old, and faced down exactly the kind of social stigmatizing that you mentioned.

I'm a TiVo user, and I think the box rocks.

    However.

I don't pay $80/mo for cable. I pay $40, and $13 to TiVo to download a program guide to me. That's a lot of money for a very little bit of data. That's about eight nice, glossy magazine subscriptions per year. Never mind the hoops I had to jump through to not use your expensive dial-in PoP. (I had to go borrow a landline for a long time to get the software update) I got it working, but that out-of-the-box experience just sucked.

I would have much rather paid for the box outright, and given TiVo a reasonable profit, than die the death of a thousand $13/mo payments. I'm willing to pay for a good user experience, but I hate the feeling that I'm being nibbled to death by just one more monthly fee.

And, no, the lifetime subscription is simply not an option. It's a terrible value, especially because I'm not sanguine about TiVo inc's future.

I like your product, but I'm not responsible to make your business model work for you. I'll be a customer for as long as I get good value, and right now your value proposition is sketchy at best. I really hope you guys can change this.
