  1. Hourly till the day I go... on On Call and Underpaid in IT/IS? · · Score: 1

I'm an hourly contractor/employee... whatever I happen to be at the time. If a company wants me to come in on call... there are many things that make the money change... if it is emergency uptime type of situations that I must be ready for... I always demand at least 2x normal hourly income for the hours I have to come in... per say I regularly do 25 an hour... I will up front assure I will make at least 50 an hour for emergency "off hour" calls, and if they intend to have these hours seep into the night, when I SLEEP!! then I would probably ask for even more.

Many employers would balk at this, but I usually can talk them into something decent... it all really depends on what I do also. If it's a job I hate, sometimes I won't even come in... I had "other" more important items to take care of... etc., but if the employer is good to me, and they treat me well with leniant flex time and what not, I will pull my weight x10! It is all dependant on the ppl and the job.

Just my 2 cents though on how to handle this.

  3. PSI Info. on A Port in the Storm for PSINet Customers? · · Score: 1

Don't worry about PSI Net. No matter what, someone is going to be taking care of things. But if your company is small, I would advise hitting a site like www.halfpricehosting.com or somewhere else. Half Price has been great for me, and I have been through Dellhost, didn't work out, up time was like 75%... hph has been 95% at LEAST.

  5. Simple. on Yahoo Knuckles Under · · Score: 1

Yahoo decided it would serve everyone better if they no longer offered that merchandise. Big friggin deal. If someone in France wants something like that, they can...

    A. Make it themselves!
    B. Get it somewhere else on the web.

Remember people... the government is always working to suppress the scary, the monsters, the artists, etc,. etc... as long as the scare anyone in the "majority". It's that simple. Thats why the underground exists, and thats why I stay in those shadows and don't associate with the ignorance of the masses. I'm me... and I can buy Nazi shit, or whatever I want to... without the blessing of anyone else anywhere. NO ONE will change that! But if you don't want something repressed, don't push it out to the masses... i.e. don't sell drugs online... don't sell illegal weapons online. Just do what the underground does, and let them flow and ebb amongst us. It's been working for hundreds of years, it's not going to stop because some stupid (French, American, whatever.) government wants it to stop.

    Thanx... rant off.

I own an Athlon Duron 600Mhz, and a Celeron 500Mhz, which had just replaced my 350Mhz P2. hmmm I'm happy, can run all the games I need to, and I have supported both companies. I do plan to get a laptop soon, and it will be an 850Mhz+ whatever is fastest at the time because my company is paying for it... if you don't get the point of my writing... this is it... Who CARES????? Get your system and CODE, GAME, HACK, CRACK, whatever you do!!! But screw this processor war crap!!! They will keep getting faster and faster, it's all in the hands of the media, we just need to worry about what we do... so like I was saying, get back to your CODING, CRACKING, HACKING, and GAMING!!! dammit :|

Just wanted to say, I play music, Heavy Heavy Music... ala NIN, In Flames, Slayer, Lightest I go is Megadeth... trust me, if one is "deprived" of the horrid public school system, it's not a bad thing, it's a "very" good thing. You actually get to see "ALL" of the bad stuff, not just a little. Anyway, the reason I say this, is because I was home schooled from 6th grade through what would have been 10th, but then OH "heaven forbid" I dropped that and went to College!!! oh no I dropped out... some say... well I smile at them as I tell them, it's ok, I have a degree, and 90k+ a year as a computer consultant to keep my depression from getting out of hand! hohohooo

  9. This is ridiculous... on Publishers/Authors Angry at Amazon Selling Used Books · · Score: 1

People continue to push our ideas and whatnot into this borg like idealogy. Sure, a writer should get paid... sure a musician should get paid. Something, but these people need to get real. The peolpe that make this "content" and all this other shit are spoiled. Get a real job, and use that as a way to make money on the side... if people find a way to spread your ideas or beliefs or whatnot, don't stop them. How did we get the bible, and all that other shit!!!! It spread through word of mouth. All these patent laws and shit are stupid!!!! People need to get on with thier lives, you invent something, and idea, an object, whatever... move on create more, but don't piss and moan about all this shit.

I create music, I create content(books and websites), and I create many many other things. But I work to make money at what will make me money. If it quits providing money I will do something else... it is the same philosohpies others should take... anyway, enough ranting on something I think ppl should spend time thinking about... but hey, I'm at work with nothing better to do. :)

  10. Doesn't exist. I would think that they do. on Is The Virtual Community A Myth? · · Score: 1

I usually do not know anyone when I move to a new area when contracting, everyone I truly know, is online, or part of my "virtual society" or whatever. I meet people the same way. For what I do (misc contract programming, admin, etc.,etc.,etc) this is the only real way for me to keep in touch with me and for those people to keep in touch with me. So I would have to say yes virtual societies or whatever exist... since the label describes my social existence and lifestyle and so many other peoples that I know.

...hmmm Scientifically that would prove it true and not a myth wouldn't it? Just wondering...

after I bought a Pentium II 350 Mhz processor in 1998 to be able to get the 100 Mhz bus, that was the end of Intel purchases for me. So I thought, I ended up getting the dual BP6 with a Celeron. But now I am sitting on a KT133 Asus motherboard with a 600 Mhz Duron, that I could upgrade easily to a 1.1 Ghz Thunderbird if I wanted to. All while running on a 200 Mhz FSB with PC133 SDRAM running at 133 Mhz!! Now can I get a comparable situation from Intel for the same amount, or even remotely the same amount of money??? NO. Where should one stick there money, AMD of course. The stock isn't doing to bad these days either. This seems like it just might dent Intel's position even more, do I care... uhhh no!
