Having a passport is not the "social contract". Indeed "passports" are a relatively new, 20th century concept. The contract I'm talking about goes back more than a thousand years to the feudal system and probably several thousand years before that. Very little has changed since then.

  2. Re:a viable model for society on The Social Laboratory · · Score: 3, Insightful

Not really, no. Your social contract gets signed by someone else the minute you are born. Ultimately it's based on the coercive power of the State and its ability to do violence to you. On the other hand it is willing to do violence to others on your behalf. That is the other side of the contract.

You know I think this is kind-of bollocks. It seems reasonable to me to assume that at times of environmental stress, an individual baby will survive or not depending on its genes. Therefore more babies with this "thrifty" phenotype will survive than those without, the thrifty phenotype having been constructed from genes already present in mother and father, and effectively randomly selected.

So when a researcher arrives to study the genes, if he's a complete fucking moron, he will assume that somehow the environment changed the genes of the egg or sperm and that this was passed down to the offspring. This is all notwithstanding that there are dozens or hundreds of mutations in the long chain of mitosis involved in creating another Human being.

There is a difference. The Capitalist CEO acquires his wealth by making and selling things, or providing a service to other people, or managing an organisation that does this. If people don't like his product or service, he doesn't make any money.

Whereas a Marxist CEO makes his wealth by conning gullible pricks into donating money to him so he can flounce around the world in a fucking Boeing (made by capitalists, please note) telling other people not to fly and suggesting that one solution to all of the worlds ills is for the people who made his Boeing and all of the hundreds of thousands of other companies that made the parts of his Boeing, to start growing fucking turnips instead.

Nazism is socialism with nationalism thrown in for free. The only reason the Nazis didn't nationalise everything was because in the 1930's when they were having their "days of strudel", the Nazi Party managed to bank millions of Reichsmarks from big business. Goebbels was in favour of destroying the corporates once they'd won power, but Hitler overruled him precisely because of these financial connections.
