Cause, ya know, everyone with a PPC mac dropped it to buy a new computer with Windows Vista on it? That's less likely than the huge spike in Linux - which at least runs on almost every consumer grade machine they reviewed.
I'll buy that people switch back and forth occasionally - but the likelihood of PPC Mac guys upgrading to Vista? That's like going from a BMW M3/M5 to a Mitsubishi Evolution.
When they announced the PSP I was all about it, but hadn't saved up enough yet. By the time I was ready to buy it, they had already crippled the hell out of it.
Once that was hacked - they did it again, so I was wary. Now it's just a piece of crap with an attractive screen and nothing to use on it. Two thumbs down. I'll take my low-res DS lite any day. It has these things called "games". They're "fun". I enjoy them, and getting online with it to play games isn't a PITA.
I have difficulty with the solo - but yes, it is of course possible. I don't know that I'd call it "trivial" though.:) "I Love Rock and Roll" is trivial hehehe.
See, there's that too. I mean, I play guitar ok, but I certainly can't play Aces High, Killer Queen, or Howl at the Moon:D (though I drum better than I play guitar). The game aspect is just like anything else - it's there to expand your horizons for fun's sake.
I know midi is way out there - but it would be fun:D
I'm looking for something that's more like the experience of playing Tekken at an arcade, less the experience of playing it at home. The GH controller is cheesy, but still sorta gets the idea going. Like the duckhunt gun, it gets the job done and it's sorta fun. Playing FPS games with a standard controller is really lame. I just have this dread thinking of the rockband drum kit. What, is it a little controller with 4 or 5 brightly colored buttons, ala Simon or Mastermind? That would suck.
Does that help? I'm not looking for an electronic drum kit here (have one, thanks), I'm looking for a decent interface that allows you to "play" and doesn't pull you completely out of the game. Race games with a wheel totally beat the hell out of race games with a standard controller, ya know?
That's sorta what I was aiming for - GH1 was really sorta braindead. If the band one is a step up (not really towards reality, but more actual fun like GH2 is) I'm all for it.
Like some people keep saying "why play guitar hero when you can play guitar" it's one of those "why play gran turismo when you can actually drive" things. Maybe because it's a game? Games are fun?
I'm really interested in the game, since I play drums and guitar. It could be a lot of fun.
If it's just another dressed up "Simon" like Guitar Hero is, screw it. If it's more "real", then I'm all there. I do hope they allow midi hookups, though:)
Example - I have a little tiny shuffle (2nd gen). I use it extensively at the gym, in the car, and when I'm running or cycling (one ear only, of course). I have an iPaq, and a cell phone which I carry almost everywhere.
The iPhone (which I'm almost certainly buying) will completely replace both the iPaq and the cell phone. However, I still won't carry it anywhere it might get lost/damaged. The shuffle will continue to be used for those situations, just like it is now.
I agree - I hate the fact that my on-call work interferes with my weekends/nights/holidays. On the other hand, the relaxed and mellow atmosphere at my work is a nice trade-off for the on-call. So while I mind the intrusion of work into home, I appreciate that the inverse is also allowed. Balance is best.
So I'd be a Seg/Int 60/40 split or some such:D
I specifically chose a house with a 30 minute commute to help with that split.
I disagree - while the US has aided "France" 3 times (Revolution, and 2 wars IIRC) we always did it from self-interest. Once to pay off a debt, twice to prevent a war. If Germany had held France, then that little island country off the coast would have fallen. The US would eventually fall as well.
(from Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Folk )... During the years of the Third Reich, this term and its adjective völkisch became heavily politicised, particularly in slogans such as Volk ohne Raum -- "(a) people without space" or Völkischer Beobachter ("popular observer"), an NSDAP party newspaper. Also the political slogan Ein Volk, ein Reich, ein Führer ("One people, one country/empire, one leader"). Today, the term völkisch is largely restricted to historical contexts describing that era. The Nazi-era use of Volk could, depending on context, be interpreted as "race," "Germanic," or "European." Because Volk is the generic German word for "people", its use does not necessarily denote any particular political views in post-1945 Germany.
Ok, so based on these (esp the Wiki), there really is no major reason to go with one or the other at this point. Soooo essentially companies will just continue with whatever they had?
Thanks for summing this up perfectly - if you care enough to get it, it's possible.
I lost a lot of my childhood stuff (since stuff like Splash doesn't even have a reader for the format anymore), but if I cared enough I would have deliberately saved it. Just like I could save my children's "fridge art".
Archival quality data is easily saved if you care. (DRM or not)
Isn't that the point of digital? Lossless copies are possible (depending on format obviously). Why have one plastic cylinder that can be lost when you can have it in 5 or 10 locations?
Finally a sane point.

It does look pretty cool - I'll give it that. I don't see much for games, though.
Seriously - I couldn't agree more.

You have some valid points there -

I agree to this - textmate is one of my killer features under OSX. My favorite editor ever, though Kate is a good second.
Agreed.

I would say the chief factor was Russia switching to the Allied side, but that just my opinion :)

That's totally self-interest.
In that usage, it's really more about race.

:D Look at Woz.
Just sayin'... it's happened before
Right -
You had pockets and holes? All we had was nullsets! And we liked it! Null, Null Null, Null Null Null - boy, does that get boring to program!
Ok, so based on these (esp the Wiki), there really is no major reason to go with one or the other at this point. Soooo essentially companies will just continue with whatever they had?
Actually, to be fair, the Sims for Mac is done by Aspyr. A 3rd party company who helps Windows only games work on Mac.
However, since EA writes games for Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft consoles, I suspect they are familiar with both OpenGL and Direct X.
Honestly, I think disk-based is the best. SANs are ideal storage as they are constantly upgraded, maintained, protected, and converted to keep up.
Not talking about individuals, of course. I mean in comparison to a warehouse of mouldering paper and plastic tapes.
"Only wimps use tape backup: _real_ men just upload their important stuff on ftp, and let the rest of the world mirror it " --- Linus Torvalds
That's an awesome program - I'm going to go look into it right now :D
