    it has a headset jack for the cellphone feature, which could probably be used for dictation.

    It's as thin as their Visor Edge (0.4") and has a TypeII Card adaptor (so it can handle IBM microdrives).

    Then you'd have a PDA/cellphone/MP3 player.

    Give it a 200dpi screen, and you'd have a book too.

    I've got a question on another photo that seems to be very popular for reasons I can't figure out.

    Yahoo has their most popular photo section and the current number 1 has been in the top 10 for several days - it doesn't seem that remarkable to me: some young jounalist/intern girl who is from Britain, but of middle-eastern decent. Why is it so popular?

    Solid State Storage is coming in about 4 years. It's called MRAM (magnetic RAM) and is a form of RAM that does not need constant charge to hold information. It has the added benefit that it is faster than current electric charge based RAM. Most people do not want to have to deal with power loss destroying data, so current RAM willl never make a popular storage medium. MRAM is the answer.

    Motorola and IBM are both working very hard on this.

    I've always wondered where I am when flying over the US... never really thought about taking a laptop and GPS aboard to chart progress.

    ... you could even plug the data into Flight Gear in real time so you could look at your computer screen instead of looking out the window (of couse using the cool A href="satellite photo textures:)

    Yeah - it's pretty retarded. You can find 15" laptop displays that have 1600x1200 pixels, but the dumb industry refuses to release these as standalone monitors.

    They could produce an 1800x1400 17" monitor at that resolution!

    What we need to do is get hydrogen-fuel cells accelerated as a usable power source. And use solar power to perform the hydrolysis.

    It seems the odds are becoming stronger that this terrorist conflict could turn into a religious war.

    The Islamic nations are going to be very hesitant to help the US combat the Taliban and Laden. Already, Jordan has said they would not allow the US to use their country as a base, and a significant portion of Pakistan do not want to see the Taliban attacked. Iran's government actively finances the 3 major Islamic terrorist orgainzation (Hezbola, Islam Jihad - forgot the 3rd). And Iraq still plain out hates the West. Not to mention the Sudan, Lebanon and possbibly even Egypt.

    Things could get very ugly very quickly. Bush has a very difficult road ahead. I only hope the Pakistani people support the anti-terrorism effort, or it will be time to fear their nukes...

    Does anyone have a link to an mpeg video of the planes flying into the wtc. I don't have a TV at home, and have only been able to see pictures - which I'm sure don't capture the full gravity of the event.

    'shred' is the gnu utility that writes over a file ~30 times before unlinking it, so that recovering evidence of past contents is impossible.

    FUCK ALL THAT. What have we learned in history? Appeasement doesn't work. These people are under the control of corrupt are bloodthirty wanna-be-dictators. There is only one thing to do. Start destroying them now.

    When they fight back. Destroy those who fight back. The Middle-East is not a big place and we have infinite resources relative to them. It's time to start churning out the Tomahawks, engaging in 24hr surviellance and destroying anything associated with terrorism.

    While the ATA interface currently maxes out at 133 megabytes per second, serial ATA will debut at about 150 MBps and is expected to quadruple to 600 MBps in the next few years.

    Right... they said the same thing about RDRAM speed, DVD capacity and countless other technologies. The only computer part that reliable gets that much faster is the CPU. Even the good old mainstay of increasing ATA harddrive capacities has it a brick wall for increasing capacity in the past year.

    A suggestion for people who would like to run KDE apps without running the KDE environment:

    When I run Konqueror in a plain X session... after I quit Konq, there are still many instances of kinit running. Could these be made to quit when Konq quits?
