Sigh.... what's being celebrated here has nothing to do with who invented the radio (take a look at the articles, there's nothing mentioned about Marconi having invented it)
Yes, true. But just the other day I heard some putz on the radio say Marconi invented radio (forgot exactly what the discussion was about) and you can bet the local news drones will be using the same phrase if they mention this story in their newscasts. People tend to get credit when it's not due them simply because they popularize it commercially. I correct people on this because it's the prevalent view of the history of radio. And... I correct people when they credit Edison with the power distribution system. That was Tesla's too!!!
I've been getting more interested in Ham and Shortwave radio. My question is this (for you more knowledgable types) - Can you suggest any receivers or transceivers for the PC? I'd like to have one on a PCI card or maybe even a USB connectable box.
Where can I find such a beast? TIA
People steal no matter what. Computers don't make that easier or more effective.
Uh, I think they do. When I got my driver's license (Illinois) renewed, I noticed that the monitor brought up a digital image of the whole thing, photo and signature. When I asked about it I got a bullshit line about how it's for my convenience in case I need a replacement. (Yeah, save me 2 minutes of time after waiting in line for an hour) So now in addition to my name and address, my signature is now available to the fraudsters.
Well, you're basically right about Americans' attitudes toward their rights. But the powers that be also know this.
That's why the degridation of our liberties has been a work in progress for the past 50 years. This "anti-terrorist" bill is a big
slide down the slope which is why it's wrapped around the issue of "public safety". And when the abuses
start, it'll be a little too late.
You're right. Just got my license renewed last month and saw the monitor "processing" my DL. Asked why they're doing that and the DMV drone said "So they can print a replacement easily". I expressed my displeasure, especially since it also digitized my signature and got an apathetic shrug in response.
also, I remember a few years ago Gov. Ryan wanted to stop the state from selling DMV info and for his thoughtfulness was sued by the Marketing companies who buy the info. Ryan (and us) lost and Illinois is *forced* to sell the data. (sorry, can't find link - STFW)
because last time I checked there had been amendments made.. etc.
Uh, yes, but if you do a little research, you'll learn that the first 10 amendments were made prior to the states' first ratification of the Constitution. They were made to correct omissions (not errors) in the "base" of the document and can fully be considered part of the original. Though the "Bill of Rights" are called amendments, this doesn't diminish their importance in the document as a whole.
But, what sort of event would it take to selectively remove all electronics completely from the Earth in such a way that there would be no way to quickly recreate them? I'm having real problems coming up with a possible scenario that doesn't include extinction of all life, at least all human life.
How about an airborne, genetically modified virus (err, the organic kind) that eats silicon or copper?
Wasn't there a law passed recently (within the last year) that requires companies who collect information on minors online to fully disclose what that information is AND to get parental consent?
It would seem these datapimps have a disclosure problem here unless they're throwing up their privacy statement in front of the students whenever they access the web through their software.
Why don't you refuse to answer ALL of the questions on the form? Since some of the questions on the form are unconstitutional, the form in it's entirety is unconstitutional. That's what I told the censuscritter when they stopped here and I got no arguement from her. Though being a rather rural area, I think she may have heard that a lot.
Even more interesting is that THERE IS NO SURPLUS!!
This so-called surplus is generated by excess receipts into the social security system. Meaning that the Social Security system is withholding more from paychecks than they are paying out in benefits. This is how it is *suppose* to work! So Gore and Bush want to take the excess (which should be used to pay out future benefits) and move it into the General Fund so it can be spent on "new, improved" government. Ask Mr. Browne about this one.
GW may sound like an idiot, but he's for less government
I keep hearing that but I'm a little lost with that statement. Where/When has he announced what government programs he's gonna axe? I just hear about all the new, wonderful programs he's going to create with the so-called budget surplus. How is he planning to reduce government? Links would be nice.
In the 1870's the original authors of the Constitution did not invision...
radio, televsions, the Internet, email, telephone, yada, yada, yada. So obviously according to your interpretation, the Constitution does not apply to these either.
Well I do think a politician could get away with blaming the parents. Afterall, this is the USA where nobody would believe the politician could possibly be refering to them. It's always that dumbass nextdoor that's the problem.
Well, ok then.

One of the justifications for charging more for business subscriber lines is that the business subscribers are the main component of the system's peak usage. Residential users have a different usage pattern, using what would otherwise be idle capacity in the system.
Gotta disagree here. I recently sold my small ISP and what I saw was that I had to plan my capacity based on Residential use, ie. peak times were 7-11pm. I would have loved to have had more business users. They would be online from 9am-5pm when line use was low sparing me from paying for more phone lines. Businesses are charged more because a business would (theoretically) get more value out of the service. And simply because businesses can afford to pay more.
It's just a damn shame that the corporate wars can't be fought with real weapons ...
Buy a freakin' poster!!
I'm gonna sit here at home for 2 years until it comes out on TV!! Top that you posers!

Well, the entire English language was "borrowed" from German, French, Latin and others.
Bit too late to change now ...
why should legal contracts be any different than the constitution?
The truth shall set you free.
But the licensing restrictions are a bitch ...
Then please explain to me Bill Clinton and George W. Bush.

And of course they already have a pyramid scheme - they call it Social Security
what about human growth hormones and steriods? maybe that would speed up the "maturity" of the clone by 25% or so
