U-235 is not "highly radioactive" - if it were, then we wouldn't have any left around. Highly radioactive sources quickly decay. The problem with fission is more the neutrons which hit all the surrounding equipment; that all then becomes radioactive.

I would agree with him in one regard - a compander and an equalizer will only severely distort the music. Every band in an equalizer that is moved from null will cause phase distortions; very grating to listen to if your system is linear enough to pass them through. If it's not, then there are other problems you need to attend to first! Macintosh amps are pretty, but if you want quality, get Levinson or similar.

Privacy became a US constitutional level issue with the Roe v. Wade decision. That's where an imputed right of privacy was originally made up. So whether you think Roe v. Wade was an abomination or a cause for celebration, that's where US constitutional privacy guarantees come from - the justices claimed it was "implicit", and their decision made it explicit (unless it's overturned some day).

Set up a box on your domain with phony data, but setup identically to their lame machine. Publish information about "see how easy it is to break into this poorly set up box" to all your current, prospective, and lost customers. Do this as a new regular service, with a new exploit featured each month/two months/whatever. Encourage your customers to break in following instructions, then mention that you know none of your current customers would be vulnerable to this.

That's a clean way to do it without honking them off. And you might get a lot of business from other lost customers as a bonus.

  19. Use the government against the monopolies! on On the Reliability of DSL Providers... · · Score: 1

I was told by GTE (now Verizon) that my home was too far for DSL. Three times. So I called Covad instead, and through my great local ISP (oz.net), I got signed up. Then GTE put in a line with a half-ringer on the circuit, so it tested bad from the CO. Fixing that was supposed to be quick, but GTE took about 6 weeks and nothing happened. So I got in touch with the state regulatory agency that determines the rates GTE can charge, and lodged a complaint. The next day, three GTE droids with a supervisor showed up and fixed the line. The day after that, Covad came in, and in 30 minutes I was up and flying. Covad and oz.net have been 100% reliable so far (six months or so). So the bottom line advice is: the states grant monopoly positions to the Verizons and other local providers, in return for setting their rates. So go lodge formal complaints with the people who set their rates. Here in Washington State, USWorst was told to REDUCE their rates on ISDN a while ago due to the complaints and rotten service they'd provided.

True, radio stations pay do however significant amounts of royalties (don't know the amount myself, I was a techie and not on the financial side) through BMI and ASCAP every year.
