  1. Puppet Masters never retire on Karl Rove Resigning Aug 31 · · Score: 1

Rove is probably gearing up for the 2008 campaign, and doesn't need the distraction of living in the Whitehouse. Needless to say he will probably be pulling the strings from behind RNC curtains, where the Democrats and the public can't identify him, even if they can still smell him.

Lastly, he has been messing with the machinery of government for seven years (rememeber governments runs on rules, regulations and people, not laws). Interesting to see what trap doors, loop holes and minefields he has left behind for future governments. Of course he and his friends will know them all, and use them to their advantage, while leading their enemies into ambushes for decades to come. In the end the Republicans will be running the country for decades.

By default, once I see inaccuracies or crap in those copyright warnings I disregard all of it. As a Canadian, the FBI is as important to me as the RCMP is to Americans. If the copyright warning specifically mentions Canada (and not as an after thought) then I will pay attention.

The American media should be more than aware of the fables like Chicken Little, and Crying Wolf.

Google can outbid the Telcos on key regions, and then leverage it to get what they want. The telcos all share anyway so if one gets what they want, chances are they have to play nice because another telco will have something they need.

Google doesn't have anything the telcos want today. It is Google who needs the telco's networks to get to the end user. If Google manages to get a single choice region like LA or New York or alternately everything else, it can deal with the telco's and side step the FCC.

So something goes wrong, you blame the user, remove them and claim problem solved. In the background you quietly find the problem and fix it (as part of routine maintenance). Your reputation is intact and all is good with the world. If only their were no users it would all be perfect.

As an example police and politicians with chauffeurs never worry about getting speeding tickets.

In an airport situation, I could see the cameras tracking you from the checkin counter to your gate. As soon as you identified yourself to a person or kiosk it would know where you should be going and watch you if you strayed. It would also notice things like people who meet and talk but did not arrive together or leave together. On city streets it would look for cars and people, and start to build correlation databases (i.e. Mrs. X's son always visits on Sundays).

Get used to it. The technology is only going to get smarter, and eventually the street lights will know where you are going and change accordingly. When you deviate it will issue and alert and require you to file a report.

Is this part of Google's strategy - decoy projects? Confuse the competition until they deploy their killer app?

Or maybe it's the idea that if you have hundereds (thousands?) of Google employee's with post-grad degrees spending ~400 hours a year (1000 employees -> 400,000 hours -> 200 man years), one will eventually deliver a M$ crushing killer app?

In Hollywood time that could be anywhere from 1955-1965 depending on the desired historical backdrop and Fords makeup. In that time period we had the beginnings of the cold war, the beginning of the Vietnam era, the beginnings of the space race as well as the birth of the CIA & KGB. Prof. Jones would probably finishing his career in academia with an eye to retirement (his relic hunting days probably over at 65, remembering that life expectancy in the 50/60s was under 70, but that never stopped Hollywood). If Lucas and Spielberg want to be interesting they would return to Central/South America and the civilizations of the Aztec, Maya, etc. where we met Indiana Jones and the Bowling Ball of Doom and discovered his dislike of snakes. Through in some ex-Nazis in South America (ala Boys from Brazil), the KGB, CIA, lost cities in the rain forest, lasers (Sun God & Temple of the Sun), and maybe even some aliens (crystal skull). Lucas could even revitalize Jones if he finds the Fountain of Youth.
