The average person isn't well educated on the meaning, purpose and ramification of laws.
The average person is also easilly swayed by emotional appeals and the sway of a charismatic personality.
It wouldn't take long for a pure democracy to turn in on itself and repeal freedom in the name of "think of the children" and impose tyranny on its minorities.
pretty much, this is what I was going to post, except I had some work to do while at work.
The basic science of global warming is extremely sound. The measured effects more or less follow the same trends predicted by that science.
There is some room for debate. But the deniers are not even getting close to the topics we don't have enough information to answer with a great deal of certainty. How hot is it going to get? How fast will it happen? How exactly will it affect global and regional climate? Can we do something to stop it? Should we? Is it already to late?
These are the same kind of people still insisting that Obama has not proven he is an American citizen because they do not have his birth certificate in their hands, that there isn't an unbroken documented chain of custody for that document and having its validity is sworn by Jesus himself.
Hard and fun are not mutually exclusive. They go together pretty well actually. Real challenge is part of the fun. Artificial challenge imposed by mismanagement isn't.
Programming isn't that hard. I began at the age of 8 myself. You can go from zero to a hacking code monkey in a month, and from there to a decent programmer in 6 months if you are willing to learn.
But when it comes to the hard problems: design, algorithms, efficiency; most everyone is going to need a broad spectrum of formal education to be able to handle that properly.
Hopefully anything using this connector will poll the other side of the cable for its capabilities before it starts dumping 100w of power out the other end. Similar occurs with current systems using PoE and detection of 10M, 100M or 1G network speeds.
This is actually something I am very much looking forwards to. It can cut down on the expense and hassle of a half dozen different cable types. Cat5e/Cat6 is fairly cheap compared to a lot of cable types and can be custom fit.
Imagine a monitor with this and the following features: 1 cable to the computer, 0 cables to the outlet. A built in USB hub for your memory stick/mouse/keyboard/webcam/etc.
Think of how much clutter you can save and how much more freedom you have in placing your workstation in relation to your cpu.
I'm not saying it is impossible to exploit a browser not in use... but I don't see a way to do that over the internet without already owning the system.
Back when computer shopper magazine was the size of a phonebook, I was waiting in line to buy it at a store. The guy behind me told me: "You shouldn't buy one of those". What crossed through my mind was that I know there are free ways to get hardware reviews and product lists. Then he said: "Computers are the beast". I was sorely tempted to joke: "I know, and that is why I am going to school to be a programmer. I want to be the one to create the beast". But in the end, I decided to say nothing because he was just a crazy old guy and I didn't want to give him a heart attack.
I know many Christians personally as well, hundreds, possibly a thousand. My uncle is Treasurer for the Southern Baptist Convention in Mississippi. I was raised in a "good christian home" with brainwashing, violence and fear every single day.
From my personal experience, you and your church, as you have explained them, are exceptions to the rule.
The war against American intellect is not affected by any outside foreign power as far as I can tell, unless of course you count the Vatican and they are at best a minor player. No, it waged internally be people who's power base relies on people not asking questions and just doing as they are told. It is domestic conservative and religious organizations that are poisoning the American spirit and sapping the will to learn from the people.
If you have ever read the comments sections of the yahoo news posts you will realize that half of all people are dumber than average, and they all have a yahoo account.
I feel "more stupider" after reading those comments for 5 minutes than I did after having my finger sewn back on after a tragic sandwich making accident.
I find slashdot to be remarkably good in the value of the content. 1% of comments ere may be all that have "value", but they tend to float to the top.
Along the way I find some frivolous humor and conversation that may not be valuable, but I enjoy none the less.
I know what you mean. I went into the last election expecting just that, and unfortunately I was not surprised. I have been unable to vote in either of the last two major elections, the first because they said after the fact that my registration information was invalid, the second because I couldn't make it to the right county before the polls closed. It wouldn't have mattered anyway, at the time I lived in a red state. It wouldn't have mattered who I voted for.
Now I am registered in the county I both live and work in and live in a swing state. For the first time in my life, my vote just might be able to make a difference in who gets elected. The only problem is that my only way to make a difference is to choose between a tax-and-spend freedom hating corporatist sycophant and a debt-and-spend freedom hating corporatist sycophant.
Probably not. We have done little more than radar map the surface of Venus. We can't get an image from orbit and our probes can only last minutes at most in the heat, pressure and acidity. Don't get me wrong, I don't think that we would find life there if we had a better way of looking, but Venus isn't an easy place to explore.
Mars on the other hand is fairly easy to explore. We have not observed any current life, but there at least some fairly good indications that life once existed there.
Pure democracy isn't that great of an idea.

Politicians are cheaper than islands?
Cephalopod = squid/octopus/cuttlefish/etc
Cetacean = whale/dolphin/etc
Would be to have selected an appropriate charity to receive the award on his behalf.

hilarious.
If I could just construct a model, I wouldn't have to worry about being rejected by one, thus solving the latter issue.
Nope.

Not sure, just be careful about the really spicy ones when they come out the other end.
Did you actually watch that video? I did.
I saw no guns and no rocket launcher. I saw a camera.
The people in the van were also completely unarmed without question.
Perhaps the initial incident was a case an "accident" of negligence on the part of the pilot.
But then the pilot lied to their handlers to get permission to continue firing on unarmed civilians.
It is an open and shut case.
And god forbid if you ever have to summon a daemon.

Sorry, but anti-thought is not compatible with actually being liberal.
Democratic party? Not a liberal organization.
I didn't pick a single portion, I only picked the most egregious examples of violators.

I was pointing out what I believe to be the biggest sources. I am not going to disagree wit you, it isn't a one sided problem.
Most of the so called liberal organizations in this country really don't fit the correct definition of the word "liberal".
Removing the requirement of plundering ships at sea for hostages and wealth from any definition of piracy is just dumb.
Removing the requirement of depriving another of their property from any definition of the word theft is just dumb.
That hasn't stopped the copyright cartels from doing just that.

Cephelapods are even farther removed and also quite intelligent.
Some indications show that they could be more intelligent than the average great ape.
Some have shown the ability to learn "tricks" after a single demonstration and no practice.
