...that this sensor net will have more care in its placement then the existing sensors do. Their poor placement and maintenance are why you can't trust the ground numbers the Warmites love so much at all.
This demonstrates a very poor knowledge of history I'm afraid. The Frost Fairs didn't end because of "rapid temperature increases"; they ended because the river was straightened and so it moved faster through the city.
Republicans are in fact the only ones holding this pork-laden monstrosity at bay.
I wouldn't bother with a bill in the first place--I don't see stimulating the economy listed as a federal government responsibility in the Constitution--but if you're going to do this at least be honest about it.
With something like 60% of spending happening in 2010 and 2011 they are "stimulative", they're pork-barrel spending. The boy President thinks that any spending counts as stimulus--the only thing this bill will stimulate is more government and more debt.
Some version of this mess will eventually pass, but hopefully we'll strip some of the pork out of it. One thing's for sure--this is not "change we can believe in".
Most of these guys squandered their money the last time they received a serving of pork, so why in the world would we do it again? At least half of this plan's spending doesn't do a thing to "stimulate" (even Obama said as much) and just represent political payoffs rather than "change".
These guys had a chance to really do something, and they've blown it.
I'm getting ready to build a house this summer, and it's going to use a ground-source geothermal heat pump system for both heating and cooling. In my case it was a simple matter of cost--a propane-based forced air system would be VERY expensive. A geothermal system requires no propane and is very simple once installed...plus the fact that it's "green" is a bonus.
Excellent!
The house I'm building will be powered with 100% solar. I had hopes originally to use wind turbines but there's not enough up there to make it work effectively, unfortunately.
Do you have any battery backup, or are you completely grid-tied?
I must disagree with both of the previous posters, to some extent.
I've used CFLs for many years. My experience is that NO, they don't last nearly as long as their marketing hype--but they generally last longer than incandescents. It's not 100% though--I've got a couple of the older bulbs still in places like crawl spaces and utility rooms that are the original bulbs, I think, and I've had a couple of CFLs that are NOT in on/off situations that died amazingly quick.
By the same token I have seen a decrease in electrical usage dedicated to lighting, however--not the magical numbers enthusiastically mentioned by the CFL faithful but solid enough.
Short version: They've been worth it for me, though they don't live anywhere near up to their hype.
I discarded most of my old-fashioned lights to upgrade to LEDs (had to keep the bubble lights though since LEDs can't do those very well). The local stores had several excellent multi-color and "bright white" ones that don't flicker at all and which look fantastic. The old lights are sitting in a pile to be taken to the local Goodwill in the next day or two.
My only complaint? The stores ran out of LED lights relatively early in the season, so my selection wasn't as broad as I would have wished. Next year I'll pick up some more a bit earlier, or buy them online.
The Founders never intended for "General Welfare" to be used as a catch-all for the Feds to do anything they wanted:
"Such a view of the Constitution would have the effect of giving to Congress a general power of legislation instead of the defined and limited one hitherto understood to belong to them, the terms "common defense and general welfare" embracing every object and act within the purview of a legislative trust." -- James Madison
While this clause has clearly been misused to justify any number of (sometimes good and useful things), it is not proper to do so.
The highway system was indeed a Defense issue and justly part of that expenditure. A universal broadband plan manifestly would not be.
Here ya go.
The Russian system uses nukes whereas our system is a "hit to kill" system. Rather like the old game Missile Command, they fly up and detonate to catch incoming warheads in the blast.
This was a fantastically successful test and demonstrates (for the 8th time) just how well this system works.
It is immoral--and I use that word with precision--for a nation or individual to be defenseless.
You're absolutely correct--my experience is that most everybody calls United States residents "Americans".
Not sure where the AC got his/her info but I can see why they elected not to post under their own name....
Just as every glitch or hiccup was attributed to attempts to "covertly fix Y2K" problems for a couple of years prior, so now is virtually every bit of weather attributed to Global Warming hysteria.

Exactly right iav1231, exactly right.

Yes, yes it was. Obviously China as the biggest country should be #1, eh?
Wow. Just wow.

It should be fairly clear to nearly anybody that the carbon offset stuff is a scam. They're rather like modern day indulgences...

It seems unlikely North Korea will let us launch something from their country to do a test, don't you think?
I'd be fascinated to hear how you think it's rigged.... Specifics please.

Israel has their own system, called the Arrow. Works excellently.

This is undoubted a surprised only to those who were swept away by the "change" mania....
Sometimes, you just gotta wonder what these folks are thinking.....
You're absolutely correct--my experience is that most everybody calls United States residents "Americans". Not sure where the AC got his/her info but I can see why they elected not to post under their own name....
Actually you're making foolish generilizations--I'm a heck of a good scientist personally.
Well said sir!
I think that's the idea.

Heh....that's very clever, Corbett. My applause to you.
I choose the *smarter*, thank you. Cue the global warming hysteria folks.....
