this is what the ACLU is for. if a law or action violates the constitution or bill or rights, the ACLU will provide a lawyer for the defendant upon request.
I think what the poster meant is that it calculated what would happen within the next 24 hours, if it were to output no answers concerning crimes not yet committed. It would then output these crimes, they could be prevented, and it could repeat the process the next day. In this sense, it is correct.
Trent Reznor has publically spoken about how much TVT screwed him on several occasions. He also mentions it in several songs. That is why he founded Nothing Records. I would not recommend supporting TVT until you hear his story.
You're right about power, but there is a bug with AMD751 northbridge that will cause the GeForce to lockup the system at AGP2x. This has been fixed on the recent motherboards that use the Via chipset.
The RIAA is acting on the behalf of the record companies it represents, who Napster argures are acting anti-competively. Therefor, this argument may be just what Napster needs.
I'm willing to bet that very few people are too lazy to download RealPlayer. The reason I don't have it is because Real produces the most intrusive and bloated software I have ever seen. You have to give your life history and medical records to download it, and once you do it throws icons everywhere and has itself start in the system tray every time you boot. I won't even begin to comment on their Linux products...
do some research - my nikon coolpix 950 does overexposure beatifully, and beats most film cameras in that i have never needed the flash. it adjusts the brightness itself, and if you know how to use it, it looks much better than a flash.
Real products DO NOT work well. They have given me nothing but problems. They are closed source, they often won't install, won't run, crash, whatever. You name something that can go wrong, and it's probably happend to me w/ a Real product. RealAudio may have been a good choice several years ago, but not anymore. Even if the format didn't suck, the software still does.
Icecast has worked well, and you might want to check out MME as mentioned above, but I can't comment on that since I have no experience with it.
The danger lies in this: Some company creates a proprietary library and convinces many developers to use this library for critical applications like web browsers and word processors. Now that many applications rely on this proprietary library (which would probably be a widget set like GTK or QT), everyone has to buy it in order to use the popular applications. Even though it's running on an open source kernel, X server, etc, all it takes is one link in the chain to create a monopoly.
there is crack for netzero's user/pass scheme. it should turn up with google search. after you've cracked the real user and pass, log in like any other ppp account. if i remember correctly it's very simple, a shift cypher or something dumb like that.
It's possible that BeOS is a more likely competitor to MacOS than is LinuxPPC... Whatever the reason, the point is Apple isn't any better than MS, and we should be careful.
From what I've seen of Apple, they're worse than MS when it comes to documenting APIs and hardware (although hardware isn't an issue for MS). Does everyone remember when they wouldn't give hardware specs to Be? And this was at a time when they should've been doing everything in their limited power to make friends. If that's how they behave during times of low market-share, I'd really hate to see what they'd do if they were in a position even close to MS. The Open Source community needs to be very careful about who they trust. There are a lot of dying companies jumping on the bandwagon, and most of them have questionable histories, and won't hesitate to stab their friends in the back once they're on top.
This is wandering quite off topic and will probably be moderated down, but it needs to be discussed. I brought up this issue under the Burn All GIFs Day article, here. It's really sad that Slashdot is still using GIFs. I have always disliked GIFs, even before I was a Linux geek, and would like an explanation for why Slashdot still uses them. Having the subject image for an anti-GIF article be a GIF is just pathetic. Maybe with the release of Mozilla and the widespread adoption of it on Unix platforms we will start seeing more PNGs on Slashdot and other such sites. By the way, don't Netscape and IE already adequately support PNGs? Where is transparency needed on Slashdot instead of a white backround?
The subject icon for this (and most other) stories are gifs... My question is, why is Slashdot, one of the most prominent Linux/Open Source websites, still using gifs?

as opposed to throwing your vote away on someone you don't agree with, like gore or bush?
that's similar to the idea behind css (the dvd encryption scheme), if i'm not mistaken. and i'm sure you've heard all about how that failed...
He said "most", not "all". I'm not going to take sides, but there's a chance that you are misunderstanding what he said.

if it's that easy to make bad decisions, why not add a ! and make millions on a great AI program? ;)
Most decent compiliers will generate a warning when comiling this code. Besides, assignment and equality really are two seperate concepts.

I believe it was Ben Franklin, and it's quite true.
Yeah, I'm sure quite a few child molesters announce it via email before they go out and rape some poor little kid...

"Studies have shown that gun owners who are properly trained are likely to be less violent than non gun owners. "
But is it the classes that make them less violent?
I think it's probably that less violent people are more likely to take classes.
By the way, that study link is a 404.
