  1. Dying twice in Sinistar on Strange Glitches In Games · · Score: 3, Interesting

If you were able to get shot by a warrior while the Sinistar was eating your last ship, you'd die twice. This would leave you with -1 lives, which the game would interpret as 255.

  2. arctic monkeys on Download Only Song to Crack the Top 40 · · Score: 1

From my understanding, the arctic monkeys played a bunch of shows, and got a cult following of sorts. Some of their fans started bootlegging the shows and sharing them so successfully that there would be sing alongs to the choruses of "yet-to-be-released" songs.

If you believe the hype, they didn't set up their myspace page, people posted it on their behalf.

If you believe all of this, then the grassroots movement is alive and well in the UK.

Or else it could just be a form of "guerilla marketing". Either way, the band, and their manager(s) get paid.

  3. "An inconvenient truth" crashes on 500 screens... on Microsoft Warns of PowerPoint Attack · · Score: 1

.. then invades all of the theatres showing "The Departed", "The Grudge 2", "Man of the Year", "Aquaman" and "Spiderman" to have the highest grossing box office weekend of all time.

  4. I'm sure that checking for fraud is the intention on Your 'Clickprint' Gives Away Your Identity Online · · Score: 1

I'm sure that recognizing return anonymous users wouldn't be that important to the marketing people behind the scenes.

Isn't this a graduate research paper by two individuals at different Business schools? Hmmmmm.

  5. does it inversely relate with impressing women? on Adults Love Video Games · · Score: 5, Insightful

In the tween/early teen years, men spend less time trying to impress women, and more time following "other" pursuits, which video games definitely fall into. From ages 15-25, we spend most of our time trying to impress women, which leaves less time for videogames, sports and other pursuits.

After that, we have long term girlfriends and wives, so pursuing other women will only get us into trouble. Instead, we revert back and pursue "other" interests... videogames, sports etc.

  6. is that why apple switched? on Apple Switched Chips Too Soon? · · Score: 1

I just assumed they switched so that they can sell os X (XI..XII..) to the masses of folks that have Intel based machines. Why wouldn't you want Dell selling your software and compliant machines?

  7. not only does your mp3 player have a virus... on Mazda Switches To USB Keys · · Score: 2, Funny

but your Mazda 3 has one as well.

Will I get calls from my friends to help them get the spyware and viruses off of their car now too?

  8. Re:Built in logging? on FL Court Rules Against Spouse-Installed Spyware · · Score: 1

I think that built in logging can be used, but only if it is "on" by default. If the default settings for the messaging software are to maintain logs, then this isn't considered wiretapping, since this is the default behaviour for the software.

  9. what 16 year old would sit through that speech? on What You'll Wish You'd Known · · Score: 1

A better use of their time would be to get the coles notes version, then go and do something else.

  10. Ian McKay & skateboarding on Too Much Gaming, Anyone? · · Score: 1

Ian McKay (of Minor Threat and Fugazi) once stated that the reason why the "punk" mentality and skateboarding culture combined so well together is that perceived things differently than the traditional point of view. A railing was an opportunity for tricks, a parking lot was a place to pick up speed, a stage was a pulpit.

All the games mentioned tend to do that. They all make you to look at things differently.. whether its hunting for gaps in Tony Hawk, looking for hookers in GTA, or looking for objects to pick up in Katamari Damacy.

The games have altered your reality; you just have to know how, and how to turn it off.

  11. Re:I have said it before, and I will say it again on Hackers, Public Differ Greatly On E-voting · · Score: 2, Insightful

I guess the idea is that these "technological wonders" will prevent the chaos that surrounded the Floria polls in 2000 from re-occuring.

However, we need to ask: Is the re-count the problem itself, or a symptom?
