esperanto may have a slightly larger alphabet, but its has perfectly logical and regular rules for spelling as well as grammar, and is FAR easier to learn than english ----
isnt that why there are all those different encodings, so there IS no overlap? i dont think there is any language that cannot use the 65K characters to construct its written language on a computer.
kanji has what, 3000 characters? Chinese uses unicode by combinations of roots and the other parts of the characters (its kinda complex, but it works!:P)
So what is the problem? I see no conflicts in any encoding scheme, where even really complex ones like Chinese still work?
(i know that they use some other type of syllabic system for teaching the writing system, or so i recall from Chinese lessons on TV... maybe that should be used to replace the pictograph system in place now, a system which was kept by the emperors in order to keep the masses illiterate) ----

Some friends and i went to the AMC20 a couple miles down highway 101 from here, to see Shrek friday nite, and we were kinda early so we went to the arcade, and lo and behold, one of the games (Metal Gear Solid i think) had a Windows crashed program screen (not the blue screen of death, just the Illegal Operation panel). After laughing hysterically for about 5 minutes and wanting like mad to take picture of it, we unplugged it to reset it... and it stayed on... we joked about it being possessed, but really, it had a UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) inside, and that took about 10 minutes to wear down... then after it finally died, we plugged it back in and watched it run thru ScanDisk and all that crap, and after about 7 or 8 minutes it finally booted the game:P ----

Well with proper financial backing one can hope this wont turn into another Indreama, but still... the games have to be there, which means the 3rd party support has to be there. Nokia has a LOT to do to get 3rd party support yet, but i like the idea of an open hardware spec... this may mean a very different shift in console development and evolution... but probably not =P
i learned python from the docs on python.org and i'm happy... i'm too cheap to buy a manual for a language as easy as python =] Perl, OTOH, is a language where several books are handy, often necessary.
Not really, just extend the searching capabilities, and deepend the hierarchy (making topics more precise)... I really don't see how that would be so hard?
i say we just all use IPs and the open directory project and forget domain names... that way there wouldnt be these stupid legal disputes and all that.
just submit your info into it and BOOM youre listed. i think this would give the net a much more level playing field, as well as letting other protocols accessed... say i want to list my gopher and hotline IP's, i could put them in appropriate places =]

a friend of mine hacked super mario world as well as super mario all-star's ROMs, "kafuka world" and "super makafuka", respectively. He didnt just change the game bitmaps, he redesigned like every level... the games are hard as HELL. if anyone wants a copy of the roms, just email me.

No, the power of Unix *is* the command line; it's *linux* that has the power to "configure/modify/recompile/disable/enable" any system part (except that which you do not have the source for).
Solaris and HP-UX and all those are still closed source and still exhibit the "Power of Unix". By the way, OSX will have source available for all things from the kernel up to commandline tools (and XWin stuff if you so desire)... just not the propriatary Frameworks and graphics libraries.
I will be getting OSX soon, because I loved OSX PB, and I want to help Apple squash M$:)
I like Linux, but it's only role for my is as a Unix-like-power web server, and for telnetting purposes, not as a desktop OS... right tool for the right job.
the definition of the border between the two is so blurry as to be different for each person. It's what you make of it, not what one person or group of people say.
yeah, the article is well and good but can i play quake3 on a OSX box?
yes
