try http://groups.google.com/advanced_group_search its clean and lets you search thru any specific news group you want. I havent found. since its beta, i'm sure they will reinstate the dmoz style grouping hierarchy soon:)
Robert Llewelyn (sp? damn Welsh(?) names), yes i thot that was rather cool... i think it stemmed from the fact tht the fellow who played Lister, Craig Charles, did Robot Wars, which became Battle Bots in the USA. I want to see Danny John-Jules do something too... hosting some kind of mega-mecha fighting game?:)
I've always wondered why people assume that AI designed in the likeness of Man, would be inhuman... I guess it sells books better than writing about an AI that learns slowly at first then starts learning more and more like a *gasp* human being, and thinking just like a human. Except faster:)
Really, what interest me about AI and such are things you will never see in AI-related movies: that in the real world, when it gets here, AI will have the ability to modify it own, and will in all likelihood modify its own hardware, mking itself smarter and faster.... yes they HAVE the technology! *queue bad 70's music*:)
Anyway like I was saying, when we get true AI, it will be so much more than what most people will be expecting, that I bet most ppl will be quite excited... I know I will be:) And I bet it won't even be evil!:)
I'm sorry if change frightens you, but without it, we'd still have nothing but CLIs (not that a good CLI is bad:) ). The thing is, you have to make a huge jump forward every now or then or nothing will ever really happen.
really, instead of just letting the server hang out with the GUI running, the GUI is for ease of configuration, after which you can drop back out to the login screen and use >console and go into text-only mode:) (or just log out and leave it there)

No, its that its useless to have a State Policy that hunts down drug users... rather that freedom from drug use starts in the mind of each own person... i.e. that each person has personal liberties, etc.
If anyone is really interested in getting into AI I highly suggest reading anything from singinst.org, or The Society of Mind by Marvin Minsky, and also The Age of Spiritual Machines by Ray Kurzweil:)
actually, thats what they do on Star Trek... they have a series of relay stations that carify and boost signals and route them to correct places:) 1/4 km long routers:P
i personally, if i couldnt be Kwisatz Haderach, I would be Ixian and violate the hell ooutta the Jihad:) Create some elite (l33t) force of AI and have them over throw that god-awful empire ^_^;;
... there are few places in the USa that you can go and see such a wide variety of diverse cultures and nationalities, which translates to lots of good foreign food;)
I think in '97 or so I used a chat program done in VRML (was in win95) and it was done fairly well. The 3d was fairly good for the time, and the interface was nice. They had gate metaphors, which were used to travel to other 'worlds', and so on. The layout of a level was dependent on the theme, but one of my favorites was an outdoorsy grassy area with greek-style architecture. All users' avatars were floating heads with somewhere around 200 polygons each, with dozens to choose from. When you chatted with people (it DID support voice chat, which wasn't fun on my 33.6K modem:P) you typed (or spoke) and only people within a real-world listening distance could hear what you said, so there wasnt streams of text of voices ALL OVER THE PLACE. I wish I could remember what it was called, but perhaps a google search may turn up something!:) Anyway, Imiss it, and maybe something like that has been redone... updated... maybe?:)

both telnet and ssh are available for OSX, and telnet is turned OFF by default (root, or another admin, has to turn it on). ssh is much nicer anyway :)

the image here is a picture of the IE app for OSx. IE is just another browser on OSX.

Looks like the Sony ad people liked it too, what with the PS9 ad they have for the PS2
