    a few things in the article don't seem to add up.
    but six is the standard right now. So they can make six copies; as long as their disc is in the tray of their computer, they can make those copies...

    ok, so they can make 6 copies, i would assume to a proprietary format so you can't make a copy from a copy (surely not mp3 format), but then he goes on to say,
    We allow (people) to make copies for their own personal use: for their computer, for their compilation disc and for their MP3 player.

    huh? you can make a copy for use in your mp3 player? then what's to stop you from copying the song as many times as you want?!?

    here's the other part i don't get:
    I hope to see a file-sharing service in the near future that will allow people the same effortless ability to download music even if it's of lesser quality, like MP3 quality, for a very small amount of money a month.

    huh?? lesser quality? i think our boy Peter Jacobs is jumping on the MS bandwagen trying to make the mp3 format sound like it sucks (no pun intended).

    i've been behind gnome and ximian (helix) 100 percent for a long time now. i really like miguel a lot, but it just goes to show what people will do for money.

    arabs are the lowliest of humans, and it's been that way for a long time.
    they see no value in life.
    there's nothing moral about their ideals.

    maybe the US has let the arabs live long enough and should kill most of them. however, it makes sense to save a few for the zoo, like we do for apes and gorillas.

    if all arabs provide to the world are terrorist fodder, then what's the point of their existance at all?

    see, if we do nothing to those responsible, then terriost attacks on the US will become more common. there will be nothing to deter future acts of violence.

    what you said looks awfully pretty on paper, but it just doesn't accurately reflect how the real world works.

    some other show highlights:
    IBM had a good showing with lots to exhibit. i wasn't sure if it was IBM or a partner, but they had a great display of a java app that checks to see if your eyes are open or closed. this would be great to incorporate it into a car.

    also, check out alicebot for a good AI example of a psycho-analysis program.

    2) you are a lousy programmer who doesn't understand how his code interacts with the database.

    if that were true, then transactions would be a god send to me. but because it is not true, i don't see the value of tranaction support.

    hmm, maybe your statement is true of yourself, which is why in your case transactions are not helpful, but absolutely required.

    yes, you're right. my applications don't need 50 database transactions within a single function. now that i think of it, i've never heard of an application that uses 50 transactions inside a single function.

    so, on paper, transactions look attractive.
    but like my original post declared, it's not needed unless you're doing a 100 million dollar ebay2.com application (or like a bank app, etc) in which you won't be using mysql at all.

    jeeez, you are missing the entire point of mysql! mysql was designed for smaller databases, to be lightning fast. add all those true RDBMS features and mysql will just be another hog like the rest of them.

    look, the sites i do are not ebay.com or even yahoo.com. i don't need all that piggy overhead.

    transactions? transactions are needed for two reasons:

    1. you're doing a bank app

    2. you're a lousy programmer and need transactions so you don't mess the database up.

  22. i've experience with 'em all on Why Redhat Choose ext3 For 7.2 · · Score: 1

    at work, we use reiserFS on mandrake boxes (raid5). we export lots of partitions out to workstations, use NIS and AMD extensively. not one problem.

    at home, i've been playing with the latest redhat beta of 7.2, with ext3. i'm actually impressed with ext3 so far, i mean, it feels like ext2 with journaling features... i had a symbolic link disappear a few times, but not sure if that was a result of the filesystem, hmm.

    and in the car, i'm using SGI's XFS for my mp3 player. it's a full blown box with lots of hard drive space and a sound card. i turn the machine on and off about 3 to 5 times a day.
    this machine is never shut down properly, but XFS doesn't seem to mind. not one problem.

    end result? i've used reiserfs, ext3 and xfs and i don't have one complaint with either of them.

    if this security flaw had not been found (by these guys looking for a way to break into hotmail to read peoples mail) would anyone have been affected ? i mean if the flaw had to be looked for with carefull thought etc then was it a real serious issue BEFORE these guys told everyone ?
