Obama already reached out to Iran. He began his presidency apologetically acknowledging U.S. involvement in a coup that happened more than 50 years ago. He then offered bilateral negotiations that, predictably, failed miserably (that was the whole plan of two-party talks, to blame the mean Americans and walk out). And, of course, Obama didn't support the 2009 uprising (when protesters were yelling, "where are you Obama?"), and has continued the blacklisting of Mujahedin-e Khalq (or MEK), the Iranian dissident movement as a terror organization, so as not to upset the Mullahs.
And what did Obama get for his "goodwill" as you put it?
Continued lethal Iranian assistance to guerrillas killing Americans in Iraq and Afghanistan; a plot to assassinate the Saudi ambassador by blowing up a Washington restaurant; the announcement by a member of parliament of Iranian naval exercises to shut down the Strait of Hormuz; undoubted Chinese and Russian access to a captured U.S. drone for the copying and countering of its high-tech secrets.
It's worked great! Let's try appeasement again. Because this time will be different.
really? you're telling me right now google is in the process of being killed. i don't quite understand, isn't google still making billions??
Apple makes more in a quarter than Google makes all year. And Google just spent two years' profits on Motorola Mobility for questionable patents (it might backfire and Google will have to pay to give Android away) to support an increasingly questionable business model (like a Starbucks competitor giving away coffee and trying to recoup the money by advertising on the cups).
Only a handful of truly important drugs have been brought to market in recent years, and they were mostly based on taxpayer-funded research at academic institutions, small biotechnology companies, or the National Institutes of Health (NIH)
Nice general talking points there, now how about some proof in the form of cites?
Besides, it's utterly pointless to say one does more than the other. How about encouraging as much funding you can going toward lifesaving drug research, instead of private sector capital fleeing to oil companies and tech?
If they won't settle for less profit, someone else will be prepared to take their position in the market.
Who is "they"? Spoken like a guy who doesn't own stocks. Scare investment capital from drug companies, and it won't go elsewhere in the market - it will go to Exxon and Apple! Buh-bye, private R&D!
Government will never give out free gas and iPhones, so my investment dollars will go there.
Growing your own hops doesn't have anything to do with water utilization. Even if you're using fresh hops, the amount of additional moisture is negligible.
Where did I say that? I was merely pointing out I am not a novice brewer. But since we're on the top of hops, I brew IPAs. We use a shitload of hops, and they absorb water like crazy, so a nice, adjustable hop absorption tool would be a nice part of water utilization.
5 gallons of water for a 5 gallon batch? I guess hop absorption and steam boil off nothing to you? For an IPA, more like 7 gallons for a 5 gallon batch.
Liberal? It's been the Conservatives at the forefront of the "fuck them, imprison them all, especially the n____s and spics" system.
I can't believe this wasn't modded flamebait. Total bullshit.
What, you didn't think that sentencing guidelines different for "crack" and "powder" cocaine came out of nowhere did you? Crack is predominantly used by blacks, powder primarily used by the silver-spoon sons of the upper crust
Right, and crack dealers were destroying black neighborhoods, which is why the likes of Rep. Maxine Waters (South Central LA) and LA Mayor Tom Bradley - both blacks - lobbied the Reagan Administration to increase sentences for crack. Now it's suddenly a racially-based conspiracy to imprison blacks because of disparate sentencing. Newsflash: Disparate racial outcomes are not per se proof of a racial bias.
But never let the truth get in the way of a good "he's racist!" meme.
My biggest complaint with brewing software is its water utilization tools, or lack thereof. It's kinda nice to know exactly how much you're going to need in advance, without using the marked wooden spoon method. I say this as an all-grain brewer who grows his own hops.
Why do we want to crash the government? It's our tool to serve the public good. It's not perfect, but we're better off with it than against it.
In many cases, the government makes matters worse, not better. And nobody proposed "crashing the government." They said crash the "longer sentence for exercising your rights" system. Typical of anti-Libertarians, equate them to anarchists.
The libertarian hostility to civilisation is very sad.
The liberal obsession with statist solutions is very scary.
I'm "arrogant" for stating my opinion on a message board soliciting comments. That's interesting, since you seem to have a lot of strong opinions on much of the world and existence. You also seem unable to do so without calling people names, so I guess I got off easy in your comment policing.
Raising awareness? Maybe we should all wear ribbons? Puh-leese. Last time I checked, homeless people are self-evident and don't need their awareness raised. If anything, I'm a little too aware of them when I enter my local grocery store. Yes, people are homeless often because they cannot follow rules, whether criminal or otherwise. A huge number of them are addicts, and most shelters have rules about sobriety. That's a major reason why many still live on the streets - they'd rather imbibe than have a roof over their heads.
So hell yes it's a legitimate question that they might keep the money or pawn the device. Anything else is political correctness, just as is the term "raising awareness."
Really? Feeling pain is an evolutionary adaptation to something bad happening to you, like being on fire or being bitten by some creature, which tells a person "take corrective action immediately!" Having less of this "something bad is happening" response might be less annoying in daily life, but it certainly doesn't make one "better." Arguably, it makes one worse off.
Some people cannot feel pain at all, and it leads to a very bad life. Children who cannot feel pain have trouble learning the consequences or risky behavior like falling or touching hot things. I saw a documentary on such a girl once, and she was regularly breaking bones due to her reckless behavior (jumping off of things, etc) and not feeling the pain. He parents had to watch her constantly so she wouldn't injure herself. She'd walk around with a displaced fracture and not even know anything was wrong.
3 of the 15 items in my grocery cart, and the guy behind me pays for the other 12, I can say, "but I pay for my groceries."
Utter nonsense. You're the ignorant one, parroting lefty talking points. Income taxes for my bracket are 35%. Payroll taxes are 7.65%. My overall tax rate is nearing 50%, thanks to California's "progressive" income tax. And of course, you aren't even accounting for net money received by half of Americans, like EITC, Welfare, food stamps, and various other government checks. If you get a net credit from the government, you aren't actually paying taxes into the treasury, you're taking them.

Less work! Let's adopt the Greek model! 30-hour weeks and 50-yr-old retirements!
I swear, all you Slashdotters had better start learning Mandarin with this attitude.

Especially for IPAs. Some of us use a lot of hops.

Made up by liberals. There is absolutely no evidence of this nonsense. It's a myth.

the big difference being that Apple screws developers more than users.
Total bullshit. Apple has paid developers billions they would not have made otherwise. Apple doesn't even make money on the App Store.
Name one company that beat Apple to market with a better first-gen tablet. Degree of difficulty: How did it actually sell if it was so good?
That would be a rather bulky and heavy tablet. This is why Steve Jobs never did market research.

to vote themselves plenty of the elite aristocracy's money. 50% of Americans pay no income tax.
Poor people are pretty smart at voting themselves other people's money.
What absolute bullshit numbers! Like 100 women a year die of Anorexia in the US! Millions die from obesity!
In America, we'd call that an antitrust violation. Be careful how you throw that word "freedom" around.
I am, and if you're not, it isn't "your" company.
