    that would actually be nice since the higher core CPU's have more cache which has been shown to increase performance for decades now. i'll take a top end CPU and disable cores any day over buying a lower end CPU just to save on licensing

    the single 12 core socket will have more on board cache and should outperform 2 sockets. plus the timing issues of running data between 2 physical CPU's

    SQL server went to per core pricing a few years back and are looking at around 8 cores per server now when we buy new hardware. more cores won't do much for us except send more money to microsoft

    the dollars will have to be significant, but in most states it takes some really crazy driving to get hit with a criminal charge in an accident. like going 70mph in a 30mph urban or residential environment, killing someone and then crying innocent how you didn't see them

    i haven't had an accident in almost 20 years
    i never run red lights
    i'm not in a constant hurry like most of the idiots i see in NYC
    i'll gladly take a discount in exchange for proof that i'm a safe driver. i'm at the point where i'm thinking of recording my driving like they do in russia just in case i get hit or hit someone stopping in the street out of the blue for no reason

    the scifi future seems to always be to suck up money from people with impulse control issues who want something NOW and are willing to pay big bucks for it and whine why it should be cheaper

    one click shopping
    digital media with no refunds even if you never use it or watch it

    i've read the legacy x86 instructions were virtualized in the CPU a long time ago and modern intel processors are effectively RISC that translate to x86 in the CPU

    android if you power down the wifi it still looks for wifi networks around you unless you explicitly disable that as well

    you might have a hard part it will take hours of practice to pass and you get a nice cut scene as a reward

    i do the same thing with my kids. i'll help them with video games but after a while make them figure it out themselves. and they get a nice reward after they figure it out

    that's why there are CDN's and hundreds of companies use them and netflix refuses to pay a commercial CDN

    these engineering and business problems were figured out 15 some years ago and everything worked OK more or less. youtube was a disruption but that was just the amount of traffic. netflix wants free services that other video providers pay for and have paid for many years now
