    My honda CR-V EX-L has a USB port. i plug my iphone in, pick a playlist and let it play. i can use the steering wheel buttons to skip songs. also works with pandora and slacker radio. spotify is a little buggy.

    it also works with Zune and plain USB flash drives. android not so good because it's a plain vanilla micro-USB port on their phones

    and i'll take my iphone GPS over a car GPS. Waze on iphone is free, not $2000. and free traffic info.

    Speed sensors and cameras on the roads
    They are installing fiber optics in the subways

    its not like the math was always known. someone had to spend years in research discovering that math and the algorithms

    if you want to make a crypto patent just devote your life to finding a better way. someone is always making something new. nvidia/intel/amd are always making better CPU's/GPU's even though they patent their designs

    you can patent implementation, not the idea

    car companies have all kinds of engine patents yet there are something like 10 different car companies selling cars in the US that all take the same gasoline

    that's the whole point of patents. you take the time to research something and get rewarded. if someone comes out with an idea you can always find a better way with some time and effort.

    its always the asian companies that only want to rip off someone's work just to sell it for less. this is why US companies like apple, MS and google will rule the next wave of home electronics. asian companies never got past dumb devices made on open standards like blu ray or DVD because all they seem to do is copy someone else. they missed the trend of smart devices with real software

    they spent a few years doing research into coding just the right algorithm for an OS to detect a human finger and respond appropriately. its true they don't make or invented the touch screen but finding the algorithm to know when its a real finger and not accidentally touching is patent able.

    no one is stopping samsung and others from doing the same thing to find their own algorithm

    even though i have 2 iphones and an ipad i still buy all my books in kindle format. it's the closest standard there is that works across a lot of different hardware from different manufacturers

    most of the skill of a good teacher is know child psychology and how to handle kids with different issues and different stages of development

    memorizing a few facts is fairly easy

    it's not reproduction, but having your genes go on

    being alive in middle age means you can take care of your grand kids while their parents work and give them a chance to have more kids. if you look around the cultures with the strong extended family traditions like latinos and asians seem to have more kids

    a lot of the english/irish/italian/ kids can't wait to move halfway across the country as soon as they can. in other cultures where you stay closer to your parents you can have more kids if they help take care of them

    no, it just means it's not a criminal offense when employees take data with them. sales people have been doing this for decades. companies have had data security policies before computers and this is no different

    how much does apple send to foxconn every year? costs like $10 to assemble an idevice? $2 billion tops if you include the investment into the plant and equipment?

    i realize they bought these companies but i have SQL databases i manage that began life in SQL 7 or 2000 and seem to work just fine in 2005 and on 2012 test servers. cognos upgrades are a nightmare

    i had to install it on a x64 machine and have to use 3 different tools because some work on x64, others are only x86

    cognos is the worst piece of crap software i've had the pleasure of working with. it's a huge pain in the a$$ to install, you have to make dozens of changes that isn't in the documentation and only available by calling support. even then they tell you to google stuff because the IBM support site is a mess to navigate

    and after you buy the software you find out features are missing because you didn't buy the right version. there are like 20 different versions of Cognos with different features

    SQL Server may not be 100% as good, but at least it's pretty easy to set it up and get going for the 90% of the features you will use

    netflix is hosted by level 3 inside the ISP's networks

    they use amazon for the authentication part

    the web lives on amazon's cloud. a lot of websites are stored on amazon's cloud to be closer to customers.

    the idea that you visit a site by going to someone's server is quite quaint and outdated

    wow

    i just create a playlist in itunes, sync to my iphone, connect to my car's USB and let it play. every few weeks i will change the playlists on my iphone for something fresh. takes me all of a minute to do that

    blackberries and android have had desktop apps that interface with itunes for years. for a long time that was the only way to get music in the form of playlists onto those devices and apple allowed it.

    itunes does things like smart playlists so you can sync only the music that you want at any time. no one in their right mind is going to search through a 30GB music collection to pick out a few songs they may want to listen to the next day and change them out on a regular basis. itunes makes this tedious task almost automatic

    what's online delivery? isn't it that crazy tech where you buy a movie in one "store" and can only watch it on devices that support that "store" and can't watch it from another store's software?

    why would anyone do that?
