what about 5 year old billing records for a customer/partner inquiry or lawsuit. i've had to compile those and a 2 week wait was OK in almost every case
my company pays for offsite storage of our tapes and i did some quick math
$2000 a month to store over 1000 tapes for us. I think the minimum bill is like $1500 if you only have a few tapes
$.01/GB is $10 to $20 per LTO-4 tape per month. i know the specs are less but ive seen LTO-4 tapes hold close to 4GB of data. i send out one tape per month for storage and keep a bunch more locally. so even on the cheap end that's $240 per month for the first year.
the consumer PC and the enterprise IT market is mostly smallish companies making the tech and dell/hp rebranding it and selling it with some value added in like providing support. this is called a commodity and it doesn't really matter what you buy. it's all the same. kind of like a blu ray player
almost everything HP sells is rebranded stuff they buy from a small supplier like Emulex or Fusion IO and resell it under their own brand
companies like EMC have staked out the high more profitable end where they can charge higher margins
why? my laptops are always near an outlet. i don't travel for work so i don't care. most home users have laptops and they don't care about the length of the battery life much either. as long as they can use it on the couch for a few hours
for the occasional long trip i have an iphone and an ipad
if you develop new tech for wireless, wifi and other open technologies and the patents get accepted into an open standard you have to agree to license them to everyone who asks at a similar rate. usually a penny or two per device
few months back there was an article here about how car computers are ripe for hacking and everyone said the car companies suck for such crappy security
now that they are doing it the car companies suck for locking down their cars
don't forget the single or married with no kids people who have no life, hate themselves and compensate for it by working all the time. and ruin time off for everyone else out of spite.
They have lots of awesome IP, just idiot management who seems unable to execute.
There are hundreds of millions of mobile devices out there and mobile gamers don't seem to care about ultra realistic graphics and seeing every drop of blood. Mobile gaming is all about gameplay.
A good buyer will make a killing selling the old games for $10 or less
You can't just buy 50.000001% of the common stock on the open market. Most funds won't sell to you because of their rules and buying that much stock will drive the price up.
So you find a buyer who will pay a premium as long as all the stock holders agree.
Even back in the 1980's and hostile takeovers you had to buy only 10% of the stock and get other stock holders to agree with your plan. Kind of like European parliaments and their dozens of parties.
so if there is a natural disaster i'm not supposed to worry about finding food, medical help and anything else to survive but immediately start surfing the internet?
and even if i did do this, only the naive morons will start advertising that they have food and are willing to share.

so people in Australia make 2 to 3 times what people in the USA make?
deleting it is one thing, but shouldn't they have backups of their email server?
and you can't threaten people and say a lot of other things
free speech is about speaking normal grievances against the government and using the political process to change them
for normal folk who like their iphones there is no reason to go WP 7.5. what does it to that the iphone doesn't?
nothing?
ok, unless its free no reason to get it

And what can you upgrade on a Mbp or any other laptop other than the ram?
I got tired of upgrading my desktop years ago when I saw I had to buy new ram, CPU, mobo and graphics unless I upgraded every few months for no reason
The geeks are usually years behind common sense lately
those were FRAND

And my mom has no idea how to configure the firewall on her router or enable port forwarding. And neither do I since I have never seen her router
Vnc is useless if mom can't get it to work
its free for non-commercial use. my mom lives almost 2000 miles away and that's what i use to help her.
that's because addicts are more likely to commit crime to steal money to get their fix. some of us city folk figured this out in the 1980's.

Steve Jobs' home was just the most high profile. isnt this what police supposed to do? catch criminals who rob lots of homes?

apple audits network traffic that hit their servers. isn't this taught in MCSE class?
and don't forget dumping the exploreability of their D&D roots and making you walk in a straight line to follow the story

if i had a choice to choose one for my kids it would be disney over Nick
