Well, I can tell you why #1 was rejected. Amazon didn't register the domain. People have been registering domains and pointing them to Amazon searches under their affiliate ID long before 9/11. This is hardly new and hardly worthy of Slashdot.
Also, #3 has most likely been submitted by many others already and as for #2... <Triumph> I'm sorry, the correct answer is "Who gives a shit?" </Triumph>
Now, if the Swingline site would just start working again so I can order a goddamn red stapler, I'd be happy.
Intel's top model, the P4 with 2.53 GHz, was able to beat the Athlon XP 2100+ in all of the benchmark disciplines.
NO! You don't say?!? The P4 2.53 GHz is able to outperform the Athlon 2100+? You must be kidding! Now had this been an Athlon 2500+ versus a P4 2.53, I might care.
Don't forget. You should be able to see this teaser trailer when you see Star Wars: Attack of the Clones movie.
It all depends on your theater. I just got back from the 12:01am showing here (AOTC was awesome) and they didn't show the trailer for Reloaded. It's a loose trailer so it won't necessarily be attached to AOTC at your theater.
btw, did anyone release a Hitchhiker's Guide to Galaxy for PDA? It feels my imagination of the guide book.
The books can be found in PDF format if you look around the web enough. But h2g2 itself hasn't been put onto a PDA yet that I'm aware of, but that would be cool. The closest thing there is right now is the WAP version of h2g2 at mobile.h2g2.com. Maybe there's still hope for the real life version of the Guide Douglas Adams was planning.
And not a shred of evidence to support their claim. I work for the "largest video game specialty retailer in the world" (that's GameStop, Inc. - formerly Babbage's, Etc. - for those that don't know) and occasionally bad info gets thrown around. When I started there, my manager was even telling people that the Xbox would play PC and Dreamcast games... and this was well after the point Microsoft had denied that rumor.
My point is: you shouldn't always trust retailers for information on video game systems. Especially on something that has yet to be announced or even rumored at this point. And that's exactly what this article is doing. I don't doubt that Nintendo is working on a new GBA. I do, however, seriously doubt we'll see it before the GBA's 2 year anniversary. It just wouldn't make sense business-wise.
The "time bomb" will only take effect after the movie has been viewed. Once you download the movie, you'll have 30 days to start the 24 hour viewing period.
I think Microsoft is beginning to attempt something like this now in Windows XP. In Beta 2, MSN Messenger is installed by default and automatically launches when you start Windows until you go into Messenger and turn the auto start feature off. Even then, I've had it pop back up several times without starting it. It may not be integrated into Windows like IE is yet, but it is definitely much more prevalent in XP.
Right now, the way things work, you go and buy the software and use it as long as you want... hell, I'd probably still be using Office 95 or 97 if I didn't get 2000 for free through beta testing because I just don't need those extra features, neither do most end users.
Microsoft wants to force everyone to upgrade to their latest feature bloated version and pay for it whether they want to or not. If people realize this then I don't think they'll buy newer M$ products and I know the Slashdot readers won't go for it.
I think this will go for a short time but in the end you'll see it go away like some other "alternative software distribution methods" tried in the past (anyone remember Softbank?) And if it doesn't, forget Windows and upgrade to Linux...
I use MetaCrawler, personally, and have for a couple of years now... it searches About.com, AltaVista, DirectHit, Excite, FindWhat, Google, GoTo.com, Infoseek, Kanoodle, LookSmart, Lycos, RealNames, Sprinks, Thunderstone and WebCrawler. I guess that pretty much eliminates the need to just pick one search engine =P

In advance: yes, I know they were talking about the last test, I just found it funny.

They should use one of those smart cameras to find out for sure.
Jobs created XP? Well, that would explain the similarities to OS X. ;)

And the "Zoom Zoom" kid is an improvement? ;)
It's sad to see him go. I was just introduced to the Hitchhiker's series last year and enjoy the books very much. I'm sure he will be missed by many.

So, if CowboyNeal picks up stories that fall through the cracks, does that make him the Lewis Black of Slashdot?
