    I will post this suggestion here so that I may ride upon the modded status...

    I think that it is time that the people form a petition against the actions that the MPAA and the government are taking in the name of the DMCA. I cannot start this alone, but I would be most interested to hear from anyone who has an original argument to be added to the repudiation of this legislature. Hopefully when enough (digital?) signatures have arrived, we will be able to send a copy to every congressman and supreme court justice in america.

    Then again, maybe I'm just getting ahead of myself....

    Yes, but then wouldn't consumers ulimately be paying for it? Or else, maybe they would opt for distributors who do NOT include windows with the pc because they know that they can just get a free handout of Windows 200x LE (Light Edition) from Barnes and Noble right next to the AOL Version 47 CDs...

    That is the most intelligent remark I've heard all year.

    I won't buy a better product because they have developed a technology that is too advanced for the competition. Rather, I will buy the inferior technology. Yup, I'll teach the world to create advanced technology and *GASP* -- get PAID for it!

    Come down off your high horse. I think it's time that we all just grew up. The world isn't an ideal place, but there is nothing wrong with what NVidia is doing.

    Yes, but this privilege (note the spelling)... is also a necessity. (Try telling your parole officer that you are just not privileged enough to hold down a job, so you had to rob a bank). In this case, the former company seems to be more on the edge of harassment and invasion of privacy. Yes, you are right, a man may speak his mind and wag his tongue, but I don't think that he can be fired for it.

    What if the man gets infected, but there is a known antibody that "cures" this infection. The man is then infertile until he gets "cured". The children are not infected and everything works out great.

    So I'd put the Linux phenomenon really as threat No. 1.

    Having said that, let me remind you that Microsoft says (and trust us on this, really!) Linux is not for you. It will HURT your (read: Microsoft's) business and decrease Linux based (read: Microsoft's) stock in the next few years. And the recent security problems with Linux(read: Windows 2000/NT call into question whether or not it should be used at all.

    This doesn't require dedicated hardware, so to speak, rather, it just requires dedicated firmware. Several of the Panasonic cd-rw's (makers of the GD-ROM) have been known to read GD's with certain versions of their firmware. It is possible that Microsoft has put this information to use.

    I want to make it clear that I am not one that favors big corporations control on consumers, but you HAVE to admit that this is the most beautiful attack on hackers in a while. I have no sympathy for those who steal the programming and compound the error by selling it. I always thought that there was nothing quite like a game of chess, but it would appear as I was wrong. There is nothing so nearly as beautiful as a game of DirecTV...

    I can one up you on the nipple approach. How about a small ring that connects to the tip of your pointer finger and when you hold down a special "mouse key" with one hand will follow your motions over the keyboard with the other hand. Perhaps little sensors built into the keyboard could track the position. It seems to me that this is much preferable to the nipple, which can be difficult to maneuver.

    Not really. Nowadays big companies use T1 and T3 lines which don't really cost that much per call. Your wasting your time. And it can be consider a DoS attack if I'm not mistaken.

    Well consider this: as the amount of knowledge that humans aquire continues to grow, so too does the time it takes to aquire that knowledge. This may be a life saver for human achievement. How long before people have to go to school well into their fifties and sixties just to have a working knowledge of things? As for the opression, I think that you'll find as one generations average life expectancy expands, so does the next generations and the generation beyond that. If anything, this technology could bring humanity into places that have never been dreamed of. It makes me all teary eyed... =)

    Of course, anyone attempting to sell Divx encoded content would probably be committing financial suicide anyway unless they had deep pockets and wanted to be the test case.

    Really? So www.icebox.com gets their act together and decides that they want to distribute their cartoon content on cds via divx (Yes I realize they are flash and much better, but for the sake of argument lets assume that they make a very complex and realistic animation). Are you telling me that they would be sued for distributing THEIR content?

    One of the obscene Web sites took information from the Salem Police Benevolent Association site and parodied it by changing words and downloading pictures from the site, police said. A second site mentioned the department and had random pornographic pictures attached to it, they said. I don't see as how a parody can be seen as obscene. Isn't there some law protecting people's rights to create parodies? As for the pornographic part -- unless there is some objectionable material that violates state law (ie. kiddie porn) how do they expect this to stand up in court?
