The Christian parent's dream: Denial of condoms to the young means they will do the "responsible" thing and not have sex.

Reality? Well... ever have sex with and without a condom? They'll probably never use one again!

Of course! Just like GWAR, they are famous for their beautiful and melodic music, not their elaborate stage performances that involve covering the audience in monster blood and semen.

  4. Re:well done apple on Apple Transfers Patents Through Shell Company To Sue All Phone Makers · · Score: 1

In this day and age where information is so freely available, does anyone still think this works? What's more, the term "shell company" has bad enough connotations that it's like admitting guilt of some sort of wrongdoing to most people. Odds are there's more important strategy behind it than just PR.

"Think" it still works? I know it still works. It works wonders on the highly-opinionated individuals that do not look deep into the story before making up their mind. In this case, it also works very well with those who know little about business. That is a very large chunk of the population. "X does Y" is directly tied to X, and it is hard to deny the facts. "Z, a shell company of X, does Y" lets plenty of room for deniability in there.

They are also useful for cheap offline storage. Once or twice a year, I export my KeePass (password manager) database as XML on a thumb drive, put that in an ecrypted archive, then store the USB in a safe somewhere. That way I know I can always get to it even if something ugly goes down, like my main KeePass db gets corrupted and I don't notice until after I do my regular offline backups. Can never to be too cautious when dealing with thousands of distinct passwords.

In all fairness, its not a completely free resource. Every network message puts extra strain on every system it hits before it reaches its destination. The more bandwidth being used, the more throughput data centers need to be able to handle, increasing the cost of hardware, electricity, and maintenance staff.

Of course, that doesn't justify the huge fees ISPs dish out.

I can hear the booo and hisses already, but this is a large reason why I fucking hate Windows. Let's be real here, everyone getting hacked by these knuckleheads are idiots themselves (to a degree) AND running windows.

Mmm, and it surely isn't because Windows is popular, easy, and familiar, making it much more common among the technologically illiterate. The problem isn't so much the OS, its the user.

Smart. Lets annoy them with spam until they just stop paying attention to calls and emails completely. Doing this will only make things worse. Much, much worse. Be mature and professional, and they will potentially listen. Kick, scream, and yell, and they won't listen to you or anyone else.

  9. Whippersnappers on British Schoolkids To Be Taught Computer Coding · · Score: 2

Back in my day, when I was bored in school, I would just ditch class to program. During that time, I developed majority of my first engine. Seriously though, I think this is a great idea. Computers are so much part of our lives these days, and will only become even more so, that everyone should know the basics. I find programming also helps you practice other important concepts, like the ability to break apart complex tasks into manageable pieces instead of curling up in a ball and crying.

  10. Making jobs (in crime) on How Game Makers Like EA Mine for Tax Breaks · · Score: 2

People should be happy. Tax breaks are almost always justified with "to create more jobs because jobs == good". Well, finding loopholes in taxes and cheating the system sure creates a hell of a lot of jobs! If we fixed all these issues, think of all the precious lawyers and shifty accountants we would lose! :(

  11. The Apple Way on Apple Patents Cutting 3.5mm Jack in Half · · Score: 1

Most companies would recognize the problem, and develop a cheap, reusable adapter to take a 3.5mm jack and plug it into a smaller hole. Guess that approach wouldn't look good enough for Apple. That, or when your tiny adapter breaks, its more logical to just buy a new set of headphones than a new $0.50 adapter.

  12. Always so quick to judge... on Anti-Piracy Lawyers Accuse Blind Man of Downloading Films · · Score: 1

There are plenty of reason why a blind individual could be downloading porn. Audio being one. Or for boosting ratio. Or just for the heck of sharing. Maybe he downloaded it for a friend? Maybe his neighbor was using his internet connection. Hell, maybe it was his wife. There are plenty of reasons, even if they are stupid ones. I'm all for torrenting, but to think someone is innocent because they downloaded a movie they can't see is just stupid.
