It's not a question of actually doing 1 million packets per second, it's the efficiency that gives it the POTENTIAL to do 1 million packets per second that's important. This gives everything else that much more time to do what they need so the same hardware can do MORE work.
The MP3 hardware Decoder used on the iPod has the capability to encode as well. I'm not sure if its being utilized for the recording funciton of the iPod however. I am sure that if an assembly written ogg player properly optimized could play ogg on the ipod just fine. you know, just like how any decoder engine for such a device would be made.
Telus appears to be a pretty good VoIP Provider. Check out their website, they even include it in with a rather promising DSL service. Tho which im sure requires a regular phone line - heh.
I still can't stand their names. The company name, PLEASE! Unsanity? Come on. Haxies, what are we? 3? Come on, im not going to install something that a crazy mommy and daddy think their 3 month old infant burped up with its dinner. I feel insulted that they would dare make their own name for a method of changing MacOS that's been around for decades. To top it off their explanation for the term is a pure insult to my intelligence. Infact I think the MacHack Conference changed its name just because it was insulted by the name "Haxies". MacHaxies Conference *COUGH*
If you were to keep the liquid and hardware all enclosed and pressurized the liquid would not boil. It would stay in its liquid state and allow you to conduct heat out of it.
Think Compressed liquids in cans. Release pressure it boils but its at room tempterature and cools it self while boiling and turning to gas. Now that would be costly to allow it to boil off. Recondenseing is a possibility but slim. Just keep it pressurized and it'll stay in liquid form.
You apparently dont have the slightest clue about programming what so ever. You also dont have any clue about anything apparently either. Linux crashes too, chuckles.
You will have to tear my Windows 2000 workstation out of my cold DEAD hands before I let you put linux on it. My tools suck as it is, I dont need them replacing them new NEW even buggier tools.
I just purchased a MacAlly CB-JSMV Messenger Bag V (Vertical) It carries my PowerBook G4 15" side ways, it's slim, well padded and ridged enough and to top it off it's a metallic color; It's wicked looking.
All the hardware on it is metal with exception to the latch which is a big metal buckle with a plastic clip on the inside.
It's very comfortable to say the least thanks to its large rubberized strap.
As a whole the bag is a perfect match for a PowerBook. An iBook would do well in it as well, heh.
This bag despite being sold by a Mac company would nicely handle a PC laptop as well, but it would have to be thin.
Simpsons Road Rage is such a poorly made game I think it could only be a good thing to have it pulled from the shelves.
They cut so many corners on the game which could have made it rather nice but in the end it feels completely unpolished.
Its like a manager walked up, saw a version in early development and decided its ready to go onto debugging. Its missing so much in terms of refinement like little animations and visual effects.
Did you even bother to do any research first before posting here? theres dozens of websites that have instructions on adapting an ATX powersupply to power macs.
What if you use a trackball on one machine and a mouse on another?
I have one of each on both of the computers I Use. A Trackball on my laptop since I dont really need a surface to use it and an optical mouse on my desktop machine.
Wouldnt my fingerprint be different on each of my machines then?
Apple yesterday announced a "breakthrough implementation of BLAST software that accelerates protein and DNA searches used in biomedical research and drug discovery and is offering Apple/Genentech BLAST as open-source software for the biomedical community.
BLAST offers improved accuracy and speed in some cases and when performing certain common searches, a dual 1-GHz Power Mac G4 offer more than five times the performance of a comparable 2-GHz Pentium 4-based system. The high-throughput version of BLAST takes advantage of algorithmic improvements, advanced memory management and the Velocity Engine ("AltiVec") to perform multiple operations per clock cycle." http://developer.apple.com/hardware/ve/ac gresearch.html
Well the G4's didnt Fake little edian support, they literaly switched the CPU to little edian mode on the fly which is really cool. Im sure the G5 can do dual edian, its just a matter of time untill they can take advantage.
What im wondering is if MS is still developing VPC for Macs since they bought it.
They all have the same overhead. Theres nothing additional the Mac is doing that the PC isnt so i have no clue where you got that idea. The macs dont have any exotic hardware that the PCs dont which they would need to talk to. If anything the macs need a more efficient bus because Altivec is throughput happy. It likes to crunch through huge ammounts of memory quickly.
Theres no magical additional overhead on the macs that the x86's dont have. The chipset used on G4's is a work of art, even tho the CPU doesnt sport DDR it did a fantastic job of handling everything.
I'd say they already have. If your router from ebay didn't already come with its proprietary cables you have to buy them from Cisco. Or try to find them on ebay as well.
Thanks to Cisco not using any standard cables of any kind (Well except for the RJ-45 and serial ports, heh) on the things you have to buy theirs for tall cash which could easily be more than what you paid for the router.
You've never been in the same room as an XServe have you? HEH.
An XServe has like 9 Blower fans in it and sounds like an old dust buster but louder.
Luckily they are easily muted by being put into sound dampening cabinets which work extremely well. Unfortunately for a submarine those things are rather large too. I wouldnt put it past them to gut the XServes and put them into their own fabricated cases.
I have yet to see a high end silent 1U server Because of the blower situation. Theres nothing silent about blower fans.
If its free as in speech its free everywhere in the world but the US. If you plan on using Solaris 10 in the US you will get called a terrorist!

Its 2004, I was supposed to have my flying car and a moon base by now. These "scientists" dont have their priorities straight.

Slashdot has been pounding everybody today, first vr-zone and now this poor guy.
Then you get the Fonts.
Then you get the vaporware of the year award.

The entire game feels awkward.
I'm with Sony. Pull it from the shelves!
Why dont we hear about the dozens of new products that are running Tron daily? Why is linux always big news here?
:-)
Hey linux is running some server some place! WHAT A BREAK THROUGH!
Wake me when BeOS is running something, that will be news

TRY GOOGLE.
Damn the rate ppl post on here. This is redundant before I hit submit and didnt even know it.

MacOSX is a fabulous OS for multiprocssing and clustering. Theres no reason not to have it on there at all.
Apple has their own clustering software and theres also software for OSX available from the AppleSeed project (google for it if you like)
Theres also the ability to run CLI only on OSX so that can free up processor time too.
