Please.... As an American college student I am offended. You don't find anything but beer in mine. (I really wish I did have the other stuff though.... I miss having money for beer and food at the same time.)
I hate to say it (mostly because I know people will respond very harshly) but I don't think Linux will ever become as widespread a desktop OS as Windows is. There are several reasons for this.
Linux is open source, there are too many different variations of things, people want things to be simple and standard.
As long as MS is together they wil not be putting out much for Linux because it can only hurt them. The more support they give, the more chance of Linux overtaking them. So they will not make anything of any true value for Linux.
Also, Linux does not really have yet the Brand Name that Windows has. Many people just for that reason will stay away from it. It's a catch 22, because not enough people will use it, others won't. And because the other won't use it, there will never be a crowd large enough to cause more people to switch over to it.
Of course everyone wants a simple word processor. They just want it to do exactly what they need it for. Unfortunately not everyone needs it for the same exact little things. So if Microsoft can add the little features that everyone wants then everyone will buy their product. If you keep adding 1% then it will eventually add up to a whole lot of people. (Note: It will not add up to 100% becaue there is a % of people who will use other products)
The reason that Word is so poplular is because it can do all these things.
Absolutely, But they thing they need most is audience participation. It would be a lot more fun to be there if I could start throwing things at the slow chunky robot bringing up the rear. Survival of the fittest.
Does anyone else feel that maybe George Lucas is moving faster than technology?
This just seems to be one more example of how he is trying to stretch technology to a place where it doesn't yet quite fit in. Yes this new R2D2 will look "cool" but I would prefer to look at it and think that it looked real. I can't imagine that this new computer generated R2D2 is going to look as though it is a real creation.
Also, I have heard that the next Star Wars movie (#2) will be filmed on digital media. This is great, but this technology isn't yet as good quality as the film they were using before. So although he may be taking a step up technology-wise, he may be taking a step down quality-wise.
Ok, ANONYMOUS COWARD you seem to have missed the point. Leaking company sectrets like "Apple is coming out with a new kind of Laptop" is not going to cause apple and sort of problems. Maye if he was leaking out top secret memoes that had some sort of bearing on anything.
I'm not saying that he should be punished, or that what he did was right, but I am saying that I can't see Apple actually getting anything out of this lawsuit against him because he reall didn't hurt them at all.
Get the point ANONYMOUS COWARD. Dummy
We can all see obviously that apple is pissed about their secrets being leaked out because they anounced them officially.
The thing I wonder is, what the hell are they going to sue this guy for? It's not like he caused and damage to the company. He didn't stop people from being excited about the new products, in fact he probably made people even more interested. He certainly didn't cause apple to lose and revenue from spoiling the secret. So he really cause them no damage, so what on earth is apple expecting from him, money?
Apple doesn't seem to be any better than Microsoft these days.
Well, no I have never managed a site of this size, but yes i do manage a fairly large site. My point also was not that IBM would charge a lot of money to fix it, it was that it really doesn't cost a lot to fix. IBM charging $200 an hour to fix an ALT tag is insane. Also, if any company claims that they have to provide special training to change ALT tags I would drop them right away.
Also, in dealing with the database, which i'm sure is very sensative, if they didn't make itso that everything is easy to upgrade that is their fault. It should just go to show the Olympics people that maybe IBM shouldn't be doing this, and maybe they should find someone better qualified for the job.
Big business is one of the most wasteful entities the world has ever seen.
Does anyone else have a hard time believign that it cost cost anywhere near either $30,000 to $40,000 up to $2 million to put in ATL tags.
I figure that it would cost about $4,000 to pay a bunch of college kids $10 an hour, free coffee, and pizza, to put in those tags.
That is unless of course a commitee must be set up first to find the most non-offensive PC terms to use with their ALT tags.
This seems to be the way internet companies do business. First offer the product free until you have a large enough customer base, and then start charging them, and lose your whole customer base. If they were going to charge for their service they should have started from the begining, because now people will just flock to an alternitive, and they will lose whatever little revenue they would have gotten by going down a diffrent route for revenue (ie. advertisements)
The number 1 googol is very odd. How can you have 1 googol if it is the number 1 followed by 100 zero's It should be the number 1 followed by 99 zeros. Think about it. One Thousand is three 0's with a 1 in front. million is 6 0's with a 1 in front. So in order for you to have one something (as in one thousand, one million, one billion...) you would need to have the number of zeros before the 1 be a multiple of 3. So one goolgol would have to be 99 0's with a one in front of them. While 100 0's with a 1 in front of them would be 10 googol.

I can't imagine that watching robots playing soccer is too much fun. We should just stick with the good stuff.
Robot fighting! Nothing better than watching a giant razor cut through another robot sending shrapnel all over the battlefield.

Damn, I guess I can't photocopy that book and a chapter by chapter basis anymore. Also, where will I draw my pictures?
