That's wierd. My familly have been using Macs since I was 2 1/2 (1985). I use a Mac at home with Linux PCs, but I work in IT for a school board 100% WinTel. Apple is still a name I can't way at work, it is just BAD(TM) and just "Not a real computer".

And here you say that you don't like Apple because it's too much of a trend? Does that mean you liked it 8 years ago when everyone was saying Apple is dying?

I believe there's still a huge counter-trend against Apple, and since the iPod and iMac, there's now a counter-trend against Apple's trend.. I guess it's always going to be the "Bad Apple(TM)"

I am working for a school board in Quebec. I am the person responsible for maintaining the spam and virus filter.. and one of the method used to monitor the health of my system is statistics.

We were getting about 1200/1300 spam per day, with an average of 120 virus per day. Spam was steady (about 1000/day in the weekend, increasing in the middle of the week to 1400/day). Recently, the average as gone down to 1100 spam/day.

I know it's not much, but it still shows that there's been a montly progression of less spam. I guess, since our domain name ends with .qc.ca, that regulations could be a factor..

I guess I just become marxist/leninist before I even knew what marx/lenin said/did.. (just surrounding religion, btw, don't think I'm all for communism or something, that's not true).

We know that there could be a huge lot of other habitable planets, yet a lot of us are still too egocentric to even think about the possibility that there could be an other race.

Even worst, at some point there we 2 'human' races on earth, but one got killed because they were too dependant on their environnement.

Quicktime is closed source, but it's an open standard. There is a Open Sourced Quicktime player for Linux, what is not Open is the Sorenson Codec. Sorenson != Quicktime, Sorenson != Apple.

Your post should have been : "Stop using the closed Sorenson Codec".. but you said Quicktime..

Also, I thought that they were providing jobs for opensource developpers, that they were returning the sources back to the originator of the projects they used (think safari) and that people liked them for that?

And.. when did Apple ever said that if you made something good, they'd ship it with the OS? I mean.. Chimera developpers have a right to hope for that.. but not to expect it! And.. I'm shure the KHTML guys are happy to get the bugfixes Apple made!

I'll conclude by saying that you have to uderstand that Apple is a compagny, living to make and sell products. They can't give everything away.. and they have to protect parts of what they do. I think they are a good mix of open/closed source, they provide good usability, speed, functionnality ans stability thanks to that mix.
