Most people arn't going to buy toasters that need firmware updates every few weeks. The market will shake out the offending products when more reliable and "stable" appliances become availible.
is it just me or is this going a little far? a fake "compression" program is one thing, but when you start hurling accusations at people.. let alone at a large company with high-priced lawyers on tap...
If this is the biggest/most-newsworthy problem we have with the American government, we're either in pretty good shape or else this country is in big trouble.
The answer is left to the reader as an exercize. I know what mine is.
Home truths learned for 20 some odd years in the midwest:
Women are gold-diggers. It's all about the bottom line, which I can actually respect.
Women want to be treated badly. Ignore them. Tell them how attractive their other female friends are. Get real drunk and humilate them while hitting on everything in sight. They LOVE it! It gives them something to complain about. Guys who respect women and are nice to them are BOR-ING!
Intellegence is NOT sexy to women. It's scary.
Size isn't everything, it's the only thing;)
Nightclub fun:
Going out to a night club? Here's guarenteed ways to hook up!
Be at least 6' 6", own a leather jacket, be prepared to discuss your new SUV and your position at the GaP at length.
Write 10 digits on a napkin, give it to a girl. She doesn't want your phone number? That's not your phone number, that's your net worth. Compare and contrast the results of differn evenings.
There are, of course, exceptions. I know a few myself. (in fact they're among others on their way over for a big drunken cookout) Feel free to disagree, but this is what I've learned. Besides, we don't have to agree for me to be right. =)
The moderation on this post is a prime example about how moderation can be used as censorship. The poster stated an opinion which I think many here would agree with. Those with mod points did not agree. *WOOSH* Watch unpopular opinions or those that make people uncomfortable disappear.
9 times out of 10, moderation is justified. However all systems are open to abuse...
The business field will be narrowed because market just isn't there for for 500 distros (but the standards issue will play a roll). Look at the auto industry in the '20s verses the auto industry today.
Government involvment in space exploration is a good thing...
I'm all for corporations getting involved in space, but without NASA real science will cease. Why? It makes no immediate financial sense. NEAR? Forget it, no one will go to a Gap on Eros. Pathfinder? Forget it, people want the SUVs, not the rover.
Without NASA, we'd have never gone to the moon. We'd not have had Hubble. WE'D NEVER KNOW IF ANTS COULD SORT TINY SCREWS IN SPACE!!!
The very least they could do is send that money to education, instead of spending it on some other frivolous cause.. More than likely that moeny will go to our wonderfully worthless space defense system. I know! Let's void treaties with our allies to protect ourselves against a non-existant threat!!

Thank you for that post. You've summed up exactly what I've always thought of web-journals and most personal homepages (there are some useful and informative ones out there).
I have friends who for some reason are into reality TV, soap-operas, entertainment gossip, and what not. As I say to them, "Are your lives really that dull and empty that this is interesting?" (and yes, I realize the irony of posting that to/.)
Of course, then they start in with the "My name's Rodg, I design software." stuff from the Comcast commercial.
Hey wait, they're not laughing with me... They're laughing AT me! Next time I see one of those friends of mine I'm going to punch them in the back of the head! And I'll post the video of it online so I can be in a MSNBC story! It'll be the highlight of my life!!

You're kidding, right? *sigh* Time to feed the trolls..
I think Chris Rock said it best: "Kids are killing kids and everyone's worrying about what movies they're watching, what video games they're playing, what music they're listening to. Whatever happened to CRAZY?" Not that Chris Rock is an authority in the field, but he doesn't have to be to make a point.
"it shows how much we can trust corporations on privacy"
Most large companies will always roll over for law enforcement. Especially one wanting good wholesome public images, like K-Mart, Wal-Mart, Target.. That's the way it is.
You are correct. Sega's downfall was advertising. The ones after it first came out were effective (NFL2000, Crazy Taxi). The most recent ones were downright WEIRD (Jet Grind Radio, frickin awesome game btw). Not that I have a problem with different commericals, I'm just not going to be going out and buying several million units.

it could give a false positive every now and again.
or something, just ignore me.. i'm going to go stare at a shiny object now.
