    Vista actually feels much more like it has a unified What are you babbling on about? The UI in Vista is more random than before. The Control Panel being the worst offender. Sometimes a dialog pops up when you run something, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes you can use the back button, sometimes you can't. The damn thing is a mish-mash of horse poop. Apple got it right, Microsoft got it WRONG.

    A home purchase doesn't put you in debt unless you overpay. In many housing markets, you don't have any choice. Why is a house that was valued at $300K four years ago (Vancouver, BC area) going for over $700K today? Because the house buyers (AKA fscking idiots!) are willing to pay for it - in hopes that in a few years some dumb arse sucker will pay over $1M for it.

    you can turn off the bloated eye candy When you do that on XP, it looks like Win2K - which is perfectly fine.

    When you do that on Vista, it looks like total utter crap - which is not fine.

    So, would you rather use something that looks perfectly fine or total utter crap?

    Synaptics has a touchpad driver that will disable the POS when you plug in an external mouse. Otherwise my HP laptop has a button that will disable the touchpad - too bad my Dell does not...

    all the junk that pops up on an HP machine This is why I wiped the drive in my HP laptop as soon as I could and installed Vista from an OEM DVD (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) from scratch. The machine feels smoother and runs faster. I would have installed XP, but the XP OEM CD couldn't see the drive and I couldn't be bothered to figure out why and build a XP OEM CD with the right driver(s) integrated on it.

    Sympatico, in Canada, throttles BT traffic down to 30 kBp/s during heavy traffic periods on their network. HTTP and FTP downloads continue to transfer at full connection speed during these periods...

    I'm going to do an online photo and video hosting service as well. It will work with Linux, Mac OSX and Windows. You will be able to upload your content and share it with friends and family - actually anyone in the world if you want. Imagine that.

    I'm going to use something called "Linux" running "Apache" using "HTTP" and "FTP" protocols to do this on something called "co-located servers".

    Oh. Wait. I've been doing this since the mid-'90s. Drats. Foiled again...

    Defragmenting a drive that has many files with many folders on it after several weeks of use does make a difference. Try it. You might like it, Mikey.

    Again it hasn't since Win98, default is system managed and this means the OS picks the size, and it stays the same. Horse poop!!!

    "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PagingFiles" sets the minimum and maximum size of system page file(s) - you can have more than one. Windows will grow the page file to the maximum size if an application goes stupid using up memory and eventually a dialog will pop up telling the system is out of virtual memory.
