The reason I took Flash off of all my machines is that 99% of the Flash usage I've seen is for ads. I admit that I didn't comb the net for games and such so my percentage is probably a little high . Now, if the developers for Mozilla would put in a right-click and "Block Flash from this server" option like you can use to block banner ads I might put it back on. Right now I see it as an all or nothing thing and so took nothing. The cost of dealing with annoying ads and junk flying through my browser didn't make the occasional cool thing worthwhile.
I almost had my immediate family trained to accept the fact that I hate presents for birthdays, Christmas, whatever. The fun wore off about the time I was seven or so. After many years of complaining they finally stopped buying me stuff... Then my sibs all got married and started having kids and started the cycle all over again:( I got married last year and added seven new nephews to my already existing four nephews and nieces (with two more on the way). Can't win I guess. This year I came up with a new idea though, I opened up Brightstart accounts for my brother and sister's kids. Now instead of falling into the crass commercialism trap my gifts are money towards their college education.:)
I wish they had this program way back when I was in college. I lived on the computer science floor and our benefit was dial-up access to the mainframe.
dream sequence Me talking to my grandkids. Ah, you kids don't know how good you have it. Why, when I was your age TV was two-dimensional in black and white. And we only had four channels and no remote control. And we were glad to have them. Heck, if we wanted to change the channel we had to walk two miles, through ten feet of snow, barefoot./dream sequence
I'm in a band that does sales through CDBaby (http://www.cdbaby.com/phantoms). They're really great people to work with. I can't say enough good things about their service. They're very friendly people. They ship extremely quick (I've had orders go to Germany that arrived in about four or five days). Best of all they're really concerned about the artists. When I e-mail a question I get a response that day or the next. Try that with some other online services. Oh yeah, and they give a great percentage to the band.
You got a year out of your Atari joysticks? I measured the life expectency of mine in weeks. Even less if a cool game came out that month:) How I've made it to 33 with no CTS is beyond me. But then I never managed to kill my original Pong game. Too bad it got lost in a move.
I'm sure that the USPS sells the addresses gained from Change of Address cards. How else do you explain the fact that when I move I get tons of junk mail properly addressed my new address months before I can get my regular bills and stuff straightened out? Another bit of 'proof', when I moved several years ago I didn't file a Change of Address card (my old address was at my mother's and I figured I could pick up mail there until all the important stuff followed). I very rarely had junkmail at that address and *never* had it the first few months I was there. My wife, who did file a change of address card, was swamped with junkmail within weeks.
I agree. My band has been selling our CD on CDBaby for a few months now. The reason that CDBaby's distribution model is good for musicians can be found by reading the staff bios. Derek, the founder, is a musician. A large percentage of the staff are also musicians. For musicians, by musicians. That's the way to go. It also helps that they will take the time to work with you. I've had several good conversations with Derek.

If I ran into my 12 year old self I'd probably say the same thing I say to the neighbor's kids now: "damn kids, stay out of my yard!".

Oh, you've met the drummer for my band... :)
