    The other point of suing them is the publicity.
    As you noted, Windows users may never notice,
    so the bad publicity is to really put the hurt
    on their sales, so that they actually fix the problem.

    Having not seen this drive, I will bet you zillions
    that the drive comes with a CD that you run on Windows.

    Any product that comes with a CD to run on Windows
    is suspect by default.

    What reason could a highly superior intelligent life form have to visit underveloped countries, err, planets?

    Simple. Their star is getting close to dying, and they need to move before it goes supernova.

    So, they set out looking for another suitable star system, with a planet that is in the right zone, and plant Space Life Forms on the planet to condition it before their arrival. They send in periodic craft to check on the conditions.

    I used to find the bugs before they complained.
    They would invariably call while I was testing the code.
    Then I'd UUCP it to them. After hours of transfer at 2400 bps,
    they could try it out. While UUCP was going, I'd be working
    on the next bug. After a couple of weeks, I'd was ahead.
    After three months, they were happy!

    It helps when you can work at night when there is no
    overhead (management) wasting your time.
