(The following information is essentially second hand but is provided as a general summation of what it seems this system is about. I'm writting the following comment to help alleviate the confusion surrounding this system)
The X10 DVD Anywhere system is a device that plugs into your DVD out and and soundcard audio out plugs. Like all X10 devices you can remotly control them from your computer for the purpose of automating your household. The new MP3 anywhere is simply an addon pluggin to winamp so that you can use the universal X10 remotes to control your mp3 collection remotly. But as the DVD anywhere kit simply plugs into your soundcard and sends that directly to your stereo, you can use it as a wireless stereo solution under any circumstances/operating systems
Well Nintendo has several very good reasons to keep with cartridges for the N64. Oviously in hinesight they were wrong, but while everyone wants to say Nintendo picked cartidges just to be greedy, that isn't the whole story. The space available on a single normal old system cd wasn't enough for much growth in games. Saturn and Playstation both have several games that require 2 cds. Nintendo oviously didn't understand that such oddities were acceptable to the average gamer. Its a combination of stupid desisions and not understanding that the gamer audience had grown up. But I'm not willing to assume anything about Nintendo till I see the dolphin.
Umm, are you asking me why the linux OS can't be proprietary? Well the kernal itself can't be proprietary as long as they use any of the linux code that has been currently developed. The only way you could make a proprietary linux would be to make a completly cleanroom kernal only based upon the current kernal specs. But I doupt sony cares to create its own kernal, and they definatly wouldn't be calling it linux cause callig it that would pretty much define it to be linux, which is under the GPL and can't be proprietary
Well, all they are saying is that you can't misuse the information they gave you. Its like as if I handed you a document that said written across the page "Top Secret, for your eyes only" Sure you probably already looked at some of the document before you noticed the top secret and its really too late at that point to say no I don't want to look at this document. You just simply keep your mouth shut and try and follow the legal order which the document gave you.
I bet what they mean is that it will run on a linux based OS, but the complier and a visual programming tools will be proprietary. Also the hardware is going to be proprietary, so while the OS that they build for this special hardware can't legally be proprietary, it won't do you much good if you don't have the hardware which will likly be kept under lock and key from non developers
I am no scientist, but from what I hear is that the potential force that existed in singularity outweighted the gravitational force being exerted. Basically you had what was a spring that was being wound tighter and tighter until the force of that spring pushing out was greater than the force pushing in till it finally split, suppositivly the force was go great that the singularity, or whatever you want to call it, litterly turned inside out, and errupted into our universe.
Well accually we guess mass of stars based upon how they affect other stellar objects. And to figure that out we have to figure out the mass of the stellar objects its affecting. Ultimatly the mass of most stars have been figured out, but honestly its alot of guess work. Pretty damn good, scientifically based guess work, but never the less alot fo guess work.
Well, I feel that $35 dollars is a fair amount to spend on a domain name, if the company hosting that domain was accually responsive to its customers. If this joker is a relativly small company that can acually stop and help its customers I'd gladly pay them whatever they want. (Complaining about this because I've been working for months to get some contact information changed in the domain that I registered myself though internic (back last year when you could accually register through internic without dealing with nsi)
Welllllllll Mabbby. You also have to consider that time would be going much slower in your pants than in your brains. So maby your head could keep up with your pants. But it's been too long sense I took my physics courses, and I don't care too look it up again. Anyone care to do the math, would time slow down relative to position to keep you intact? (Not the mention the fact that to an outside observer you would never reach the center.)
I think they just couldn't resist saying the words Y2K. My old tandy understood the year 2000. Generally there are no post 1980 computers that didn't understand 2000. Some, even today have have the date reintered, but hopfully that isn't to difficult to do. Anyhow about computer garbage I don't know why people throw away their entire computers instead of just upgrading them. Though I do have to wonder about the motherboard fairy. I should have about 5 old motherboards in my closet. And not one of them is there anymore. they just simply dissapear
Umm large OEMs pay absolutly next to nothing for software. Why do you think so much junk software comes packaged with your computer, it allows them to charge more, while the price stays relativly the same. But in general good hardware is more expensive, and good hardware is really the only thing that runs on linux as crap hardware often won't. But if you buy a computer and you think your getting a real good deal when its a cyrix 233 with a winmodem for only $400 bucks, your being taken for a ride.
Whoa, I am definatly not a grammersist (can't even spell it), but that statement made absolutly no sense to me. I believe what your trying to say is that we should decentralize the government, and at the same time tax eveyone so that this uncentralized government can evenly distribute funds. First I want to know how a decentralized government can have an effective social finance system. Either all the money goes into one large central government, which would give that government more power, oviously not decentralized. Or each individual section of the country tax its citizen heavily so and spread out the wealth section by section. Hmm so that means the poor sections of the country would remain poor, while the rich sections of the country pool thier money together to help them become more wealthy, while trying to remove the poor populus from their regions. That would be a great country to live in. I'm sorry but the only way to run a socialist country is with centralization, and the centralized government ends up with too much money, and too much power.
Infrastructure? No local state, city, county governments pay for the infrastructure. Such money comes from state and local taxes such as sales tax, income taxes, gasoline taxes, toll roads, and the various taxes that local govenments add to things. The federal income tax goes to federal programs, some of which goes back to the state to help the local infrastructure. But generally these programs exist simply because the people cannot afford to pay so much local tax after their federal taxes. If the federal tax went down and the local taxes went up we would be removing an entire level or beuracracy and save alot of money. The federal government obviously needs money though, but the money they use except for the military and state help ^^mentioned earler^^ is simply for social programs. Not all these social programs are bad, and many may be helping to fuel our economy. But, in my own opinion as long as the military is being funded, our local states could easily operate and run this country on their own.
WHoa! chil I was just being a bit silly, sadly I too call it Ctrl-Alt-Del, I was just trying to stir up things, which oviously I stirred up one individual a bit too much. I was making that statement simply because you can hit alt-ctrl-del and it will work (note: you cannot hit del-ctrl-alt, or del-alt-ctrl). Anyways get a grip, btw if I look across my keyboard I see a spacebar then and alt then an ctrl then a del to the upper right (yes I see ctrl and alt on the left side of the spacebar too but I choose to ignore them just to annoy you). :)
Maby, maby not, staying with the canine example, while we have streched the species in many ways concevable we have yet to cross the species border. Any one varient of domesticated dog, can still mate and produce a fetile ofspring with any other varient. True evolution requires a split to the point that their cannot be a fertile offspring (this isn't the true line exactly but generally a good measure for differenciating between seperate species). I am still not contending that evolution is incorrect, I just content that we do not have enough prof to consider it a fact. And even if evolution is possible, who is to say that the evolution chain as we teach it today is entirly accurate. Maby, apes decended from a outcast group of retarded homo sapiens, driven into the wild who adapted and evolved to live in the jungle. There is very little to go on but theory in evolution and it should be taught as one of many theories (though should be pointed as as the most scientifically based) not absolute concrete fact.
Well IBM bios understands ctrl-alt-del (though I prefer to call it alt-ctrl-del, just to be different) as a reset, so its one of those keys that you either allow to be sent to the bios and reset the computer, or you remap to properly shutdown the computer, or bring some sort of shutdown/task menu. I could be wrong in the previous statement, and open to flame.
Irish drink Budweiser (the American kind?) I would understand them drinking the czek kind (czek has bottled a beer called budweiser (spell differently though don't rememebr spelling) for longer than the american budweiser has existed, we stole the name for some reason)).
The evidence for evolution is every bit as strong as that for Galileo's Law, and yet many perfectly sensible people reject it utterly There is great evidence for microevolution. Which is mainly what darwin spoke of. If you read Origins of the Species (spelling?) you will see that most of it concerns changes within a species to make that species stronger and more fit to survive. The many varieties of the Canine is an excellent example of microevolution. But I have yet to see a single bit of definitive proof of MacroEvolution needed to fill in the total evolutionary theory of existance. Such facts are very weak and are based upon theory, much like the bigbang. I am not saying the theories are wrong, but too many people are so absolutly sure that these theories are fact that they are offended when considered a to only be a theory or myth.
Yes, but the law concerns what Gates was Doing, not what is going on right now. If I'm charged with going 55 in a 45 mile an hour zone, then they change the sign to read 55 the next day, that doesn't let me off the hook. Gates had a monopoly, he abused the monopoly he had, breaking the law. Gates has to pay the legal recourse (I say throw the company in jail (you can't throw a company in jail, but the equvilent would be to remove its buisness license) for a year!).
Well, you really have to have the Eurpean version to truly appreciate it. To be shipped to America it has to have many extra preservatives added and a reduced amount of alchol. Why do Americans only drink thier beer cold? So they can tell it from piss.
(btw I am an American, in America (USA to be exact) just cause I live here doesn't mean I have to like it)
Obviously your a new user here, or just haven't been paying attention. The slashdot effect, is a semi-natural phenomenon, in which a article/url is posted on slashdot that everyone wants to checkout/read. The server holding that article is generally not prepared for an increase in hits of several thousand people within an hours time, crashing the server. The server is then known as being slashdotted. Every once in a while even slashdot gets slashdotted, when other news agencies link to slashdot, but in general the effect is named after slashdot as we tend to create such an effect more often than most other news sites.
