I am a debian user, and I think this is bad. Sourceforge is my principal source of informations when I search for a project that do what I need to do. Now if I need to go to sourceforge, then Savannah, then Alioth, then myownproject.org, then myownprojecttoo.net... Well in this case I think a bunch of project could pass under the radar and will be never seen by others:-(. Sourceforge was good because there is a single point where to search against (Sorry but I never go to savannah:-/). Now If I need to go everywhere to find something, Google will be my friend, bur Google is not the panacea too. This will have the side effect that Sourceforge, Savannah, Alioth, and others will be parcelated and unuseable like all the webrings you can find and cannot use because you don't know them except if you are in it or know someone in it:-(.

For example, I play DAoC and I have seen some kind of programs that sniff the packets on the network to display an map of all player/monster nearby whith all kind of informations like level, items on them,... There is no modification of the client program, nor soft running on the computer of the player. But on another computer. Some aiming proxy for quake are what they are: proxy on another computer... Then MMORPG are not safe on a game cube either:-/

I see more and more spam with reply adress forged with an email adress looking a lot like mine !!! like firstname.lastname@some.isp !!! one day or another, they could be more harsh and put my own email adress in it... And then I couldn't do a filter. I send email to me on a regular basis for reminder:-/

Well "Why ?", simply I think because the 2.4 Kernel is bigger than the 2.2 and for embedded applications, space is money... Just for a test, try to find some ONE 1.44M disk firewall distro with a 2.4 kernel... And do the same research with a 2.2... Why?
Another point on this. I have a scrip to build my special kernel to fit in one 1.44 disk for my firewall (P75 with 16MB without HD and fans). It was a pain in the ass to make all change in the kernel and all the needed packages to compile them against libc. I would love to use 2.4 for is iptables and especialy the QOS. But it is too much assle for me and I don't find this kind of 1 disk distro with the 2.4 (too big ???).
Another reason to this is that calls are made anonymously. You don't know who is at the other end of the line and thus have no possibility to call him/her back.

I have a 1.5MBit ADSL line at home. I can download at approximately 192KBytes/sec at wire speed, or a more realistic 180KBytes/sec. Regardless of whether I run one wget or ten, I will still download at 180KBytes/sec, therefore taking the same amount of time.
I have a 3Mbit ADSL line at home. I can donwload realisticaly at 300KB/s. From time to time I found ftp/http servers where there is a hard hard limit at 50KB/s, but if I open multiples connections I could get my full 300KB/s. Yes I am hard on this kind of servers. But If they send me 300KB/s directly, I am very gentle and open just 1 connection at a time.

Well, during my legal 14 month period at army in the train regiment, I can tell you that route of whatever weapon is not a secret information and less top secret. They are just sensitive. Sensitive information is not secret, but if you shut your mouth up it is better. The top secret information is codes to activate them, codes to enter in the silo... I have wrote TSR program, Multitasked windowed window manager under DOS (with asm subroutine for task switching), Direct hardware access to reconfigure video chips, Mix pascal code with asm code for demo effects like rotozoom, 3D. For BP-Elf, I have developped a process monitoring application who get data from captors on the towers and show results of computations on proprietary display on a VAX computer.
I have done some C programming during my studies and casting is a pain in the ass. In C some casting could be done in your back by the compiler, in pascal, you need to do it manually and this is less error prone! In C you have casting and functions. Casting as a fonction to change a value from one format to another (eg: flot -> int). Pascal has eliminated the notion of Casting and put a bunch of functions to do the casting work.
Pascal is my favorite language, if there is less stupid suits who choose languages on the AD size and let Techies and Engineer choose for themself, Pascal/Delphi/Kylix will be in a better situation...

why not just have ISPs disable outgoing SMTP traffic except to their own mail servers, and throttle users to 10 emails per day?I have my own mail server and I hope to set up a mailing list for my family. And personnaly, from time to time I send more than 10 mail a day...
I'm no fortuneteller but a good start would be an email protocol that fucking authenticates the sender so that you could be guaranteed that every email in your inbox has a from header that doesn't lie.
Hum, lie a problem here. To authenticate, you need some kind of garanty, like thoses from Verisign or other. Then you associate a cost and a delay from some greedy corporation to have a authenticated e-mail adress. That because you need to verify if all the information send by the appliant is true and real. Then no more free and instant mail box for Mr Joe. And there is a work around: Create a little association (cheap and can be faked easily), register an email account, send spam ! Yes our box is closed, but your spam is send and authenticated !!! You can't trust an organisation saying she will not send spam, because that organisation could be dissoveld in the second after the spam is sent, and then there is no trail from who is behind (faked member and president).
No more viruses that claim to come from your friends.
plain bold wrong, Email viruses come from a genuine friend without altering the header of the email... Best of all, it is your friend who have send it to you by clicking on him...

But for this, I will never know. But if you child says this to you, it is YOUR fault to have let this photograph taking shots of your child on the beach... My point of view is that with a good informed knowledge you are less tempted to try by yourself like in this case (The radiactive scout). When I was young I loved to experiment something because I didn't know the in and out of it. I have made some explosive with less than optimal safety. Some of my experimentation has exploded, simply because no good documentation was available to me. For example Nitroglycerin is less dangerous to make in big quantity, but other are less dangrous in small quantities...
Child porn: I completly feel like you. But in some case some child porn extremist seems to says that taking picture of nude child on the beach is child porn (in this case my family album is full of child porn)...
No need to go to some poor or totalitarian country to see some possible use of freenet. Just try to list "www.xenu.net" in google or just try to go to it...
