The mess I am talking about is leaving Saddam in power in the 90's, equivalent to pushing the Germans to Berlin, then packing up and going home after telling Hitler not to do it again...Probably the biggest mistake overall was leaving all of northern africa and the middle east to fend for themselves after WWII...
I am one of the poor souls that had to switch to MSN thanks to Qwest for my dialup support (rural MT, and Qwest was fast and stable for a 56k connection.) The required M$ software totally ursurped my dialup networking, I cannot find any way to uninstall it when I change to a new provider, of course I can't check email with mozilla and have to use wonderful Outlook, and along with several other annoyances, I can't even close msn messenger down because it is used be other programs. How is this really any different than AOL? We have less and less control of our rights every day while these large organizations try to manipulate everything we do with our lives.....shrug, welcome to corporate america I guess.....
Well, try living in rural montana and see what your broadband choices are.......
The only thing I find 56K really limits me from is online gaming, otherwise (with the exception of web sites that assume you are already broadband and load the eye candy up to replace decent web design) I do everything I want......
The majority of people I know with broadband have kept their modems (admittibly about 10 people) because of reliability with cable modems and dsl....
Sulu: "target that explosion and fire!"
and the Enterprise and Excelsior procede to torpedo the bloody snot out of a bird of prey.....
shame there wasn't more of that over the years....
by far DS9 is the best of the new breed, you had to watch it and keep track to be sure, but by damned they didn't solve 99% of their problems within 10 minutes of the credits on every flipping episode.....
and as for voyager, (disclamer: this is not a racist question) What is the deal with a black vulcan......seems strange to me....shrug.......
shame that we all can't be easily entertained by something brainless............
the best thing about british comedy is sitting there a while later, mind wandering, and getting something that blew right past you earlier.....takes a few brain cells at times....
well, with windows 2000 stability isn't much of an issue now......I am one of those windows people that hasn't made the change over yet.....once I retire this box I will put linux on it to play with and lear on, but the lack of software support for linux is the big killer.....if I were still in school it would be different, but all I really use a computer for now is paperwork, browsing, and games.....and the games is what decided it for me.......
WOO! off of the subject totally, but sweet Queensryche reference;)
hmmm, 10 years ago wasn't it the evil heavy metal music that made kids freak out???? hmmmmmm
yes, but does disarming law abiding citizens also disarm the criminals? Your argument is flawed, look at Japan, where it is virtually impossible for a normal person to own a gun, yet criminals in Japan still have guns.....
Do you care so little about your life, and the lives of your loved ones that you render yourself incapable of defending them? You are willing to throw away your human rights for a false sense of security? What you are forgetting is that a gun is just a tool, and the true weapon is the human mind. The police can't act untill a crime has ben comitted, are you willing to take the risk that it is your family and your house that the criminal goes for first? I am proud to be a "freak" if I am able to prevent my wife from being raped, or defend my children's lives. I will not give up my right to self defence because my family has been involved in law enforcement for years, and I know truly how impotent the law enforcement is. And that they must remain that way in order to have a free society.
By the way, I wouldn't recommend giving out your street address to anybody around here now that everybody knows that you can't, or aren't willing, to defend yourself.....
"...We feel that any society that loses these warrior virtues is a poorer one and will soon be a society who's freedoms are lost. The male has a prime directive to protect and defend. Every man is responsible for defending every woman and child. When the male no longer takes this role, when he no longer has the courage or feels the moral responsibility, then that society will no longer be a society where honor and virtue are esteemed. Laws and government cannot replace this personal caring and commitment. In the absence of the warrior protector, the only way that a government can protect a society is to remove the freedom of the people. And the sons and daughters of lions become sheep."

Intel should release their own locked and overclocked cpus at a reduced price and warranty period...

Seems like this sandstorm in Kuwait is a good thing.....too bad we don't have sandworms to ride into Iraq!
Just a shame we have wasted 12 years to clean up this mess.
