  1. I Saw This Technology in the 1960's !! on 3-Dimensional Holographic Projector · · Score: 1
Back in 1967, at the Museum of Science in Boston, they had an exibit that showed a bowl of coins inside a box. The exhibit encourage you to reach into the box and try to take the coins. They were not where they appeared to be.

Inside the box (as pointed out by the poster affixed to the wall next to the box), was a series of curved mirrors. The real bowl was located elsewhere inside the box, out of reach.

    This was in the 1960's!!!

If those guys try to patent this, I would hope that the Museum of Science would stand up and cry fowl that they had allready had this technology!

One of the weaknesses of this technology, by the way, was that the whole game is spoiled when fingerprints started to accumulate on the mirrors themselves. The exhibit was a real headache for the musuem because the maintenance staff had to constantly reach in with Windex and clean the darn surfaces.

I am a little suprised that this did not happen at the Comdex exhibit, unless of course, the box was kept well out of reach of the hands of the crowds looking at it. Someone standing by with a bottle of Windex would probably spoil the whole magic!

  2. I might as well patent clear plastic raincoats on Patent Warfare · · Score: 1
What with how crazy this is, would it take much for me to patent the concept of wearing clear plastic raincoats in the rain?

Would they be so stupid to let that through????

Then I can get royalties from anyone who wears a raincoat in the rain????

  3. DARE Is **BIG** at Parades! on Has D.A.R.E Been Effective? · · Score: 1
I don't know if they are effective, but DARE is a **BIG** presence at all of the parades here in Seattle with two exceptions. They are not at either the Gay and Lesbian pride parade, nor are they at the Freemont Fair Parade.

They are especially big at the annual Seafair parades. Several companies paint one of their trucks black and put the huge DARE signs on them. People walk alongside these trucks (usualy they are the huge semis to impress the kids) and hand out DARE literature.

This has been going on for approximately 15 years now. Same trucks. Same signs.

Why they are not at Freemont or the Gay and Lesbian Pride march; who knows.

Anyone else in Seattle notice them?

Are they in Parades in any other city? The bowl parades?

Why buy the stuff? I make my own.

It's perfectly okey, as long as you don't sell it to the public for a profit. If you make it and wear it yourself, it's okey, as far as I know.

I have a good sewing machine as well as a computer driven embroidery machine. This allows me to make embroidered outfits any way I want them.

What's really neat is that I can change the logos or do my own additions to them at my will and really turn heads.

An example is when I was volunteering for the WGBH TV auction in Boston and they told us to wear school letter jackets from your college.

So, I made my own. I put the school's logo onto the brest pocket, but I used rainbow colors, instead of the school colors and embroidered under it,

I have been doing ham radio on bikes for a long time.

I have a 2 meter and a 440 mhx hand held. I put them on my bike when I do public service events or when I go for long trips and I think I may need to call for help if I get into trouble in places where cellular phones won't work.

That is also where I draw the line.

I have met Steve Roberts and I have seen his famous bike. I even lifted it. And almost ended up on the deck with a bad back. You guys are right.

The weight is what kills the fun out of those gadgets.

Sure, the solar panels are a good idea. I copy-catted that idea and have a small solar panel that I use on long trips. No computers. No internet. No GPS. No heads up stuff.

In fact, the ham radio stays in the pannier sack until I need to use it. Hence, it stays dry in the rain. Seattle does get its rain. When I am riding, I am riding. Not computing or talking or webbing or whatever.

I also agree with you Iowa people. What happened to him can be an embarrasment. Having met him, I can fully simpathise with you folks.
