    No... laws are a bad idea because they don't actually stop piracy. Better encryption does. Here's a bad example: somebody is shooting water at you with a garden hose. he makes it illegal for you to drink the water. well, you can still drink it. oops. the solution is to `encrypt' the water, say by adding some poison. now you won't drink the water without proper equptment. to apply this to DirecTV, just sub radio for water, etc. it just makes sense to me that if something is going through into your house, etc, then you can use it.

    I was rather impressed with Moz 0.9.1 when I tried it last night. Earler releases reminded my of Java Apps (i.e. you press a button, 10 minutes later the graphices change :) Moz 0.9.1 is sooo much faster. I'm converted :)

    How is GNU Privacy Guard similar to Pretty Good Privacy? same letters? This means that AOL should sue the government for labelling missing soldiers as MIA, because, as an untrained bystander, I would confuse that for AIM. Oh wait. No.

    Most of my friends use Windows, so to talk to me on AIM, they look at ads. If I wasn't here on Linux, they wouldn't use AIM, hence less ad views. Althoug gaimers don't look at ads they ad (sorry) value to the network, enticing more wintelers.

    xemacs opens in about .2 seconds (i.e. i type it and it shows up) on my 233MHz G3. maybe you're not typing xemacs right :)

    Remember: Just because something is annoying, doesn't mean it's illegal. If they [spammers] find our email address, then they can send to it. This from the people that want AOL to open up thier network for free, and then want spam blocked; "well, if I like it, then it should happen". Sorry, not real life :-). On another note, I'm kinda surprised that the DEMOCRATS want this! Seems pretty conservative/federalist to me.

    Why doesn't my ISP own all the stuff that goes to CVS? It's their banwidth, and I'd have nothing without it. I paid for the bandwidth, you say? Well, I paid to go to UIUC and THEY own my code for using THEIR internet/machines. Is this a double standard? I call for strong encryption or something (that way, they own the cyphertext :-), not they code)

    actually, everything works fine if you use VALID HTML and CSS!! Why can't anyone check their HTML at the W3C's Validator? The only site that I could think of that was valid was kde.org! Way to go!

    Anyone who buys a computer or console expecting it not to crash even once is full of themselves.

    This is gonna get modded down as a troll, but it's true -- my Linux box (an iMac Rev. B with Debian 2.2r3 and Linux 2.4.3-pre6-ppc) has crashed once since I put Linux on it. And that was when I was hacking a USB driver. So the point is that systems are getting stable. (Then again, some applications crash, but that doesn't count).

    IANAPhDIG (I am not a Ph. D in genetics), but I don't think we use RNA to propagate changes to organisms. Since the RNA is not transcribed to DNA, but rather the other way (DNA -> RNA -> Protein), DNA allows the desired protein to be synthesized, as well as allowing this characteristic to spread through species (reproduction, we all like that :0 ).
