Nobody tried to make a new plane for a very long time after those, and even today when the first new models came out, one is bankrupting the company because its "too good" to be useful and isn't cost-effective for the customers.
So everything reaches a plateau. I would think a S curve to technology improvements is mostly appropriate for even smartphones. Until a breakthrough technology like holographic or neuro-injected displays appears!

I would welcome the idea of free public transport though, that makes awesome sense to get people using buses and light railway. I have a feeling it won't be affordable at all - all those people no longer buying cars, not buying petrol, not buying bus tickets... big hole in the established economy if that happens, though the money will be spent on other stuff - like beer, if the bus home was free, I'd go out a lot more!
