...we could get the bank employees to do that, so that I can be sure my money is safe. I'm not worried about my own use, but those that control my information, that's downright frightening.
Oops. Sorry to reply to my own post. Comcrap will also block you for "being infected with a virus" if you do the "right thing" and relay through their mail servers for personal mailing lists and such. Thank goodness for authenticated mailhop outbound through dyndns on nonstandard ports.
Also, how, exactly do they plan to notify? Email isn't a good method. They already do this crap anyway. Try hosting a mail server that sends to a couple of lists some time, or even try using a 3rd party authenticated mail server, and watch your outbound smtp(s) traffic get blocked.
Did you read in the article where the labels are making money selling this guy's work. Work that he gives to his fans for free. I don't consider it free, though. I'd think of it as promotional.
Stealing free work and selling it disgusts me. Like when nelly furtado used a mod (or was it an s3m?) a few years ago in one of her songs and didn't pay, let alone credit, the author.
Regardless of which side you are on, how about just doing the right things to keep our air clean and our forests/etc intact for the sake of conversation itself? We don't need the threat of global warming (the earth has been through much worse, and our entire history on this planet is a blink of an eye to it) to make our own quality of life while we are here better.
Why? Your device. Securing it is your responsibility. Don't like that? tell all the windoze lusers with zombie-infested machines they can't install whatever they want anymore. Blackberry deals with this well with their application firewall. No reason palm (or, gee, a 3rd party!) couldn't do the same.
I'm looking forward to getting a pre, but not sure about the reliability of Sprint's network vs. ATT. *sigh*. I wish the whole tying of phone to network thing would go away. Pre on Verizon without hobbling the OS would be quite nice.
Great way to pre-ride a mountain bike race course to know where you are high so you can plan your race for better recovery at each climb and an overall faster time. It's hard to teach yourself to slow it down on the descents (it's just so fun!) without the feedback. This is a great service that I use for all of my post-ride analysis:
This guy was coming right at me, crossing 2 lanes of traffic one night. Driver behind him reported that he was looking down and fumbling with a device while driving (likely texting):
I agree such software is great as learning tools for others to get a foothold with when writing their own more complicated software
Then it is important that they are easily distributed. The time to get something like this, which others can use as a basis, should not be longer than the time to have created the app in the first place.
Yeah. I want a calendar that has a 'birthday' type, like my timex watch. Birthday events have an associated date, so when somebody's birthday comes up, it also tells you how old they are. Why does nobody do this (even though they have birthday type of event) except for my tiny-brained watch?
... to use the internet as intended. I run my own mail server, thanks:-) If someone were demanding me to shut down my own accounts, well, at least I'd know about it and wouldn't just shut myself off without my day in court.
Actually, if google just sold a modular 'app appliance' based on their current clustering, that would be a huge win for business. It can be a 'web app' without being on the general internet. As your company grows, you just add boxes that automagically scale to deal with the growth. One central place to upgrade, configure, keep standard templates, etc. That would rock.
What? Any user can set something executable and run it in a Unix system. It'll just run with the privileges of the user, which in this case is more than enough.
Uhh. Mounting things lusers have write access to as noexec deals with that.
Yup. I would love a WPS on linux. Elegant. Consistent. Extensible objects. Also, when you moved a file that something on your desktop pointed to, it knew about it and changed the desktop object accordingly. Nothing else does that as well to this day.
Comcrap has disconnected me numerous times for "being infected with malware". I run my own mail server, and it was hosting some small mailing lists at the time. Dyndns outbound mailhop to the rescue. Funny how I'm no longer 'infected' if I'm using port 2525 outbound.
Typing papers, writing lab reports, etc. all benefit by being able to type. Perhaps students shouldn't learn how to use a pencil, either, and everything should be done orally?
Remember this?

Oh well.
1) firefox + adblock plus
2) effective spam filtering
1 is in the user's control. 2, hopefully handled well by the mail provider.
Of course, it's all about education, but the above two things will stop a lot of the cruft coming in, regardless of being on windoze or linux.

for fingering someone. Well, for emailing the results to them and thanking them for letting me finger them, but whatever.

I can't believe that nobody got the COTFSM reference. Slashdot, I am disappoint.

Blah.
The google folks seem to disagree with you:

He never slowed down after hitting the bank on the opposite side of the road, and nailed the house at around 50mph.

well, at least it's appropriately named.

The trees are grown for that purpose
Young trees soak up more CO2 than old ones.
I guess there is the chemicals used to create the paper argument.

Don't use facebook? And if you do, don't put sensitive information on it?
