What? Like Office? nope. MS Windows? nope. XBox? nope. What products are good? I guess their keyboard and mouse is good.... sorta. Mostly I think of MS Windows. It's awful.
FYI, I'm on the Apple band wagon. Mostly because my wife and I have not had a single problem in two years, but Grandma down the street couldn't figure out how to use the print queue.
It's more likely a CBer than a WiFi ISP. Them CBers love to hook up huge amps and flood the spectrum with noise. I had one here knocking out the TV. They got busted.
Good company or bad company does not matter. The reason that people don't mind that Apple does something that Microsoft does isn't because they are a "Good Company". It's because Apple makes good software, and that software works. Microsoft makes crap software that does not work.
If Microsoft made good software, people wouldn't hate them so much.
I have done four out of seven server's so far. I've only had one problem. My main router has a LMC PCI T1/CSU/DSU card. I could not get FreeBSD to work in Frame Relay mode with that card. The drivers come up and it goes into T1 mode just fine. But I can't figure out how to get Frame Relay to work with it. But in a month or so, I won't have to worry about that. I'm going to a dual T1 router to increase bandwidth.
I am having problems getting Radius to work with my email and VPN servers. But that's a side project that I started after the migration. I should have that done this weekend.
The Web servers were very easy. I installed FreeBSD minimum, then used portinstall to load Apache+PHP onto them. My next conversion is my Postgres Database server.
Oh, another problem. Be sure to cvsup ALL the ports when doing upgrades. I was only getting the ports that I thought I wanted, but there are dependancies that are in the strangest places.
All this security stuff to keep people out of your network, but don't forget about people jamming up your network. It only takes one client to mess up everything.
I'm running a small WISP and have found that some radios can crash my access points. Make sure you get a real good AP, like Cisco or something. I've use the cheap ones. Linksys, D-Link, and I end up having problems. So I built my own with a Soekris board using Linux. Same problems. Switch to FreeBSD (m0n0wall). Same problems. The dam things crash almost every day. The biggest reason... Power Save Mode on a client computer.
I run a small ISP, and after all the problems that I see with MS Windows I just can't for the life of me understand why people are still using it. They get viruses, adware, spyware, you name it. Their systems get all junked up with applications and crap. They constantly have printing problems. Yet, they just nuke their systems and reinstall everything like it's normal. If I had to reinstall my system every month, I would not use that system any more. I went to a customers home to install internet one day last month and their system was running very slow. I check it out and it's a 1.5GHz system. It took 10 minutes to boot. It would take 3 minutes just to get into the network configuration window. She just shook her head and said, "It used to be fast. I guess I need a new system." I just about lost it.
Isn't Apple's AAC a open standard? Can't anyone write a player for it? MPEG4 is a open standard isn't it? I thought it was better than Windows Media? It sure plays better on my Mac.
I am currently migrating to FreeBSD from Debian. The main reason is the easy of installing and maintaining software. With FreeBSD Ports system, installing is easy.
I get the latest stable software. I don't have to worry about crazy dependancies (I don't want MySQL dammit, I use Postgres). The software is in a standard place. It's easy to tweak things.
I also find that FreeBSD is much faster than my Linux system... Especially RedHat.
Except the software is not supported by Rack Space. Sure I can install them...
In fact, I had them switch me over to FreeBSD because basically I have to support myself anyway. So if I'm going to have to do my own support, I might as well do it on a OS that I like. Now I'm up and running and my server is about five times faster.
As soon as our contract runs out, I'm bailing out of there. Their service has been awful and their prices are way out there.
I'm using RackSpace and the only way I can get PHP 4.3 and Postgresql 7.4 is if I use RedHat ES 3.0. It uses Apache 2. The only other option is to use PHP 4.1 and Postgresql 7.1. Stupid RackSpace. I would have used FreeBSD except they don't support it as they do with RedCrap.
There is no reason you can't buy PowerPC parts and build your own Mac. I did it. I have a 800MHz Cube on my desk that only cost me $1000.
Just buy yourself a G5 motherboard with the correct BIOS and add all your PCI/IDE parts to it. Instant Mac. Slap it in your cardboard case and draw an Apple on it.
I'm wondering. As an ISP, could there be a program that scans customer's computers for problems and blocks them until the customer fixes them? This way we could slow the spread of viruses, spam, and other nasty things.
I build a WISP for $3500 that covers 8sq miles. Each relay was $1000 and I have 3 of them. I'm sure you don't need as much for a single apartment building. I even have a 50 foot tower in that cost. I pay about $700 a month for a Frame Relay (T1 is $1300). I have 43 customers so far and plenty of bandwidth for Playstations and PC games.
Microsoft has been trying to put itself out of business for years, yet people still buy their products at any cost. They triple their prices, they sue left and right, they consume small companies to put them out of business, they write really crappy software, and still people buy from them.
I don't think you understand. I did not have a email account with Yahoo. Never had one. My email address was on my yahoo profile. I also had Yahoo Chat. But not anymore.
Would it be possible to get a restraining order against spammers so they can not send you email? I wonder what it would be like to have all the slashdot community get restraining orders against lots of spammers. If you did get spam from them, would they go to jail?

I just use what works.
It's more likely a CBer than a WiFi ISP. Them CBers love to hook up huge amps and flood the spectrum with noise. I had one here knocking out the TV. They got busted.
OK, I'm getting tired of this.

I switched to FreeBSD and it's even better. Smaller, faster, and easier than Debian. For a web server it can't be beat.

Wow, BSD is dead?
I just migrated all my Linux server over to FreeBSD because FreeBSD is so much easier to maintain. It seems faster also.

It's just mind boggling to me.
"From the photos, this looks just like an Apple Pro Keyboard without the Apple symbol on the COMMAND keys."
I see the Apple command symbol on it. What photo are you looking at?

It's because HandBall was already taken.

You get what you pay for. That's all I have to say.
I think you didn't understand. I bought a whole computer. Actually a Apple Mac Cube with Monitor, Firewire CD Writer, Keyboard, Mouse, Speakers, ....
The CPU it's self is only $100 or so.
I also find that my G4 800MHz system with Mac OSX out performs a 1GHz system with XP on it.
I have been thinking about this for years. Just don't accept any email unless it's signed or encrypted using a valid CA cert. Why can't that work?

Have fun.
I finally got so sick of Debian that I moved to FreeBSD.
I'll watch it, but I'm going to skip the commercials.

Microsoft is untouchable.
