Just like there are similarities between Einstein and Carrot Top (Wacky Hair?), and disparities, Einstein's a lot smarter than Carrot Top and definitely a lot more important. There are similarities between Harper and Bush, both are autarchs who like to ignore anything that contradicts their beliefs about how things should be, and differences, Harpers a lot smarter than Bush.

However, Harper likes the way American politics works, he wants to be Canada's Bush (but with higher approval ratings). He takes his cues from American conservatism, he always has. I used to be a Conservative voter, but the party's dropped the fiscal conservatives to embrace the social conservatives and that's just not acceptable.

Frankly, I'm sick of Harper's one issue campaign: Dion is worse than I am. Methinks thou dost protest too much, Sar Harper!

I'd prefer Dion over Harper, Dion seems to be more grounded in reality and less likely to try to be the King of Canada (figuratively, not literally). But frankly, I think neither the Liberals nor the Conservatives deserve a majority.

Looks like it's the fiscally conservative and socially liberal party for me. I think I'll be voting Green tonight.

That's not quite true. There were more qualified female conservative candidates. Palin was chosen because she's pretty, religious, conservative and against all of the traditional women's issues.

They figured with all the practice on Bush they could work around everything else. And as far as core republican voters are concerned she's just awesome. Of course, to anyone who watches anything either in addition or instead of Fox news, she's a complete disaster.

There's reasonable doubt and then there's willful ignorance.

These guys were recording private conversations that they should have been listening to, then gathering around it listening to the "exciting parts" making fun of the people they were listening and generally whooping it up.

Anyone who complained that this was inappropriate behaviour was dressed down for rocking the boat. They were told that their bosses "were ordered" to "record everything" including private calls that were obviously between Americans. As reported by actual people who used to work in intelligence, this was clearly illegal and they used to drop those calls as soon as they knew it was between Americans and flag then so other people wouldn't listen to them.

This sounds like a dramatic departure from the previous operating mode, not an innocent "oops". The behaviour of the majority of the employees indicates a lack of respect for the law and the people they were illegally spying on.

If anyone needs a wake up call it's the indolent people who just don't care that their government is breaking laws because it would be inconvenient to follow them.

Even scarier is the part where the one intelligence operative notified her superior that a building targetted for an airstrike was a hotel with American journalists in it and her superior told her it was none of her business who they decided to kill.

Senator McCain doesn't look like change to me.

Senator McCain's acceptance speech at the Republican convention seemed to be almost same as Governor Bush's acceptance speech. Senator McCain made the same promises that Governor Bush made in 2000. That doesn't look like change to me.

Senator McCain is taking advice from Bush's advisors. For example, Carl Rove picked his VP nominee for him, which admittedly is better than having Dick Cheney pick your VP nominee (which Dick Cheney did in 2000). But if McCain is using the same advisors as bush, that doesn't look like change to me.

I mean McCain, for all his "mavericking" voted for the legislation President Bush supported 95% of the time over the last 8 years. That doesn't look like change to me.

Both George Bush and John McCain come from privileged white backgrounds. Senator McCain's father and grandfather were admirals.

I just don't see this change anywhere. Both McCain and Bush come from similar backgrounds, listen to the same advisors, and have the same basic approach to the issues. Where's the change?

It's called abuse of power and that's the real issue here, she tried to fire someone for not firing someone else. It's not acceptable behaviour from a governor and it would be worse behaviour in a president or vice-president. Therefore it speaks directly to Governor Palin's ability to perform the job of vice-president or as is reasonably likely given the age and health of Senator McCain, the job of president.

The people who used to be in charge of the CBC may or may not be dumb for not having bought perpetual rights to the song.

Of course, if we had sane copyright laws, that wouldn't be an issue, because the song is old enough that the copyright should have expired by now.
